Soccer legend Cristiano Ronaldo has once again proved his prowess on the field by securing the coveted Golden Boot in the Arab Club Champion Cup. 

The iconic athlete, often hailed as the Greatest of All Time, emerged as the top scorer of the tournament, netting an impressive total of six goals across six matches. 

Ronaldo’s performance throughout the championship has left fans in awe, as he showcased his exceptional goal-scoring ability and unrivalled dedication. 

The Arab Club Champion Cup, known for bringing together some of the finest clubs from the Arab world, provided the perfect stage for Ronaldo to exhibit his talents.

Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior will henceforth be wearing the number 7 jersey, shortly after the departure of Eden Hazard, whose jersey used to carry the number.
 
Before now, the Brazilian international’s jersey was number 20.
 
In a Facebook post via its official handle, Real Madrid uploaded a picture of the player wearing the number 7 jersey, attaching the post with an inscription signifying a change from “20 to 7”.
 
Recall that Eden Hazard had, in the last two seasons, had difficult and bad moments as his fame and performance were below average, leading Carlo Ancelotti, the Real Madrid manager, to bench him almost throughout the season.
 
Apart from Hazard, Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio also left for Al-Ittihad and Paris Saint-Germain, respectively.
 
However, in another development, the club has been able to complete a deal with Borussia Dortmund to bring in Jude Bellingham.
 
Also, Madrid’s loanee at Inter Milan, Brahimi Diaz, has been brought back by the Spanish giants.

Cristiano Ronaldo needs no introduction in the footballing world and beyond. He is one of the greatest football players in history and a complete inspiration for millions worldwide. But many people need to learn the story behind Ronaldo’s rise to success.

Born in Funchal, Madeira, a remote island in Portugal, Ronaldo grew up impoverished. His family was not wealthy; his father worked as a kit man at a local football club. Yet, despite his challenges, Ronaldo’s passion for the game was strong, and he started playing football at a tender age.

After showcasing promise as a young player, Ronaldo joined the youth academy of a local club, Andorinha, when he was only eight years old. Even as a young player, he showed promise, and at the age of 12, he caught the eye of a scout from Sporting CP, one of Portugal’s top clubs. But convincing his family to let him go was difficult, and his father encouraged him to train harder and pursue his passion.

At Sporting, Ronaldo worked very hard to turn his dreams comes reality, and soon he became a star player. He debuted in the Sporting first team when he was a teenager, precisely 17 years old, and his performances caught the eye of scouts from some of Europe’s biggest clubs. Eventually, in 2003, he signed for Manchester United, one of the biggest clubs in the world at the time he signed for them where he made his footballing Godfather– Sir Alex Ferguson.

Ronaldo’s time at Manchester United was a turning point in his career. Although his first season was tough, he improved every year, and his talent and hard work were soon impossible to ignore. He played a crucial role in helping Manchester United win three Premier League titles, one FA Cup, and one UEFA Champions League trophy.

Ronaldo signed for Real Madrid for a world-record transfer fee of €94 million in 2009. But despite the astronomical transfer fee, Ronaldo’s performances continued to improve, and he emerged as one of the best players in the world. He won four UEFA Champions League titles and two La Liga titles with Real Madrid. He became one of the club’s greatest players in history before he departed to the Italian giant, Juventus.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s move to Juventus in 2018 surprised many football fans, as he was widely regarded as the face of Real Madrid. However, he quickly proved his worth at Juventus, becoming the talisman for the team as they won their eighth consecutive Serie A title.

In his first season at the club, Ronaldo scored 28 goals in all competitions, and his performances helped Juventus reach the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League. Despite a disappointing exit from the competition, Ronaldo’s impact on the team was evident as they continued to dominate domestically. He has since become a fan favourite, and his incredible work ethic and dedication to the sport have earned him the respect and admiration of fans across the globe.

In 2021, Cristiano Ronaldo returned to his former club, Manchester United, after spending several years with Real Madrid and Juventus. The announcement of his return to Old Trafford was met with waves of excitement from United fans, who remembered the impact he made during his first stint with the club. Ronaldo’s arrival brought a sense of renewed optimism to United, and many believed that he would be the key to helping the team win their first Premier League title since 2013.

Ronaldo’s return to Old Trafford was nothing short of spectacular. In his first game back, he scored two goals against Newcastle United, and his performances throughout the season were consistently excellent. However, United’s decision to sell him to Al-Hilal, a Saudi Arabian team, after the 2022 World Cup shocked many fans, who believed that the club should have done everything possible to keep him.

Ronaldo’s transfer to Al Nasar marked the end of an era for Manchester United. Although many fans were disappointed to see him leave, they knew that it was a decision that he had made for personal reasons, and they wished him all the best in his future endeavours. Former Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo, who currently plays for Saudi side Al Nassr, has put his private jet up for sale.

Al Nassr, in a short post on its official Facebook page, made the Portugal legend’s decision known.

The post reads, “CR7 decides to get rid of his private plane, the Gulfstream G200, which he bought in 2015, at a price of 23 million euros  ”.

However, the proposed price of the plane has not been revealed as of the time of filing this report.

Recall that Ronaldo left his former club Manchester United after a controversial interview with Piers Morgan in which he fiercely criticised the club and accused its management of “betraying” him.

Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric is reportedly in talks with Cristiano Ronaldo’s present club, Al Nasr, in the hope of making a move to the Middle East. 

Modric’s contract with Real Madrid is said to come to an end this summer, and there are no signs that Los Blancos are interested in extending the stay of the Croatian international. 

A Saudi news outlet was quoted as reporting that Al Nassr are also interested in bringing the one-time Ballon d’Or winner. 

Modric left Tottenham for Real Madrid in 2012, and he has been able to gather 22 trophies and other individual awards over the period of his stay at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Cristiano Ronaldo is one of eight Manchester United stars who could depart this summer, Danny Mills, a former Manchester City right-back, claimed.

According to Mills, Ronaldo, Paul Pogba, Eric Bailly, Victor Lindelof, Phil Jones, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, and Nemanja Matic might depart United at the end of the season.

Ronaldo has struggled since joining Manchester United from Juventus last summer, despite scoring 22 goals in all competitions for the Premier League giants.

Mills told Football Insider that making Ronaldo a part of the rebuilding process at Man United is pointless because Erik Ten Hag will take over from Ralf Rangnick.

“Ronaldo might be a difficult one, but I am sure somebody would take him. Remember, they didn’t pay too much for him. It’s not like they are going to take a huge hit in terms of a transfer fee.”

“Ronaldo still has something to offer, but if you are talking about a rebuilding process, and he’s only going to be there for one season, what’s the point? He becomes more of a hindrance than a help. Every time you lose, it is ‘Why is Ronaldo not playing?’ That is the difficulty that you have. If you’re going to start afresh, give yourself that opportunity to start fresh,” Mills was quoted as saying.

Cristiano Ronaldo is unquestionably one of the greatest footballers in the world. Needless to say, he has lifted almost all trophies, except the World Cup. Notwithstanding, his recent performance at Manchester United is anything but superb. I am not a football pundit, but I am old enough to understand if someone is no longer in their prime or the odds do not favour them anymore.

Naomi Osaka is a much younger athlete than Ronaldo. She had a winning streak, including defeating her role model, the undisputable tennis GOAT, Sareena Williams. However, the lady luck stopped smiling at her after that remarkable performances and victories. Much unlike her much older athlete colleague (i.e. Ronaldo), she didn’t summon her grit at that time. Instead, she had a rethink. Thus, she tried the fashion industry and, well, succeeded.

In his book, Think Again: The Power of Knowing What You Don’t Know, Adam Grant subtly criticises Angela Duckworth’s argument on grit in her famous book, Grit: Why passion and resilience are the secrets to success. He says we should avoid “escalation of commitment”. What’s that?

Grant defines escalation of commitment as “When we dedicate ourselves to a plan, and it isn’t going as we hoped, our first instinct isn’t usually to rethink it. Instead, we tend to double down and sink more resources in the path.” Isn’t it what many of us do?

Of course, Osaka goes back to tennis. And, yes, Ronaldo may come back. However, if I were him, I would rethink my commitment to professional football. Grant (2021:229) points out that “gritty people are more likely to overplay their hands in roulette and more willing to stay the course in tasks at which they’re failing, and success is impossible”. In other words, gritty people go into foreclosure.

Honestly, I side with Grant’s argument more than Duckworth’s. We may be passionate about several things. Nevertheless, we may not succeed even after trying our best possible. For instance, how many relationships have had to let go? That doesn’t mean they aren’t our calling. Instead, it tells us that we aren’t cut for it. Hence, instead of pushing and pushing, rethinking and reversing may be our best way out – and, of course, way forward.

Being on social media for nearly two decades, many young people (I am also young, by the way) have talked to me about their passion for writing or doing postgrad programmes abroad, among other things. So naturally, I do my best to advise many, if not all of them. But, frankly, some of them should rethink their dreams. It’s glaring that some do not have what it takes to be writers or secure foreign scholarships.

I am also experimenting with a profession outside academia. Bluntly, I am beginning to rethink. I am not under duress to foray into any field. I am deeply grateful to God that my take-home salary pays my bills and more. While I may still pursue the – or another – profession in addition to teaching and research, I will not foreclose my thoughts.

Finally, try and try harder. Suppose you fail ad infinitum, please, stop and have a rethink. Rethinking should not necessarily come after a series of failures. It could or should come almost at any time. Moreover, that doesn’t mean grit is unimportant. I think without it, both Ronaldo and Osaka would not have gone that far. Even yours faithfully had to apply grit to be where he is – Alhamdulillah.

Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo has today agreed to move to his former EPL club, Manchester United, after being in Juventus since 2018.

This is contained in an official statement released by the EPL giant on their website.

The statement reads: “Manchester United is delighted to confirm that the club has reached [an] agreement with Juventus for the transfer of Cristiano Ronaldo, subject to agreement of personal terms, visa and medical.

“Cristiano, a five-time Ballon d’Or winner, has so far won over 30 major trophies during his career, including five UEFA Champions League titles, four FIFA Club World Cups, seven league titles in England, Spain and Italy, and the European Championship for his native Portugal.

“In his first spell for Manchester United, he scored 118 goals in 292 games.

“Everyone at the club looks forward to welcoming Cristiano back to Manchester.”
