President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will broadcast to the nation on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at 7 a.m., in commemoration of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.

All television, radio stations, and other electronic media outlets are urged to join the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) for the broadcast.

The announcement was made by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President (Information & Strategy).

In a related development, the federal government has announced the cancellation of the Independence Anniversary parade, which was previously scheduled for the same day.

The government clarified that this decision does not diminish the significance of the milestone and that all other anniversary programs will proceed as planned.

The government expressed regret for any inconvenience and appreciated the understanding of the public, while also urging Nigerians to support the president’s reforms.

The Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr. Aminu Maida, announced on Tuesday that the previously suspended 5% excise duty on telecommunications services has been completely scrapped by President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking at an interactive session with journalists in Abuja, Maida revealed he was present when the issue was raised with the President, who firmly rejected the tax.

“He said, ‘No, no, no, we cannot put this on Nigerians’,” Maida recounted. “I was very pleased when the bills came out and we saw his words were followed through.”

The contentious duty, part of a broader tax reform bill, had faced strong public opposition since its introduction in 2022, leading to its suspension by President Tinubu in July 2023.

Its full removal is now expected to ease financial pressure on subscribers and support wider growth in the crucial sector.

Aliko Dangote, Chairman of the Dangote Group, on Thursday named the road leading to the Dangote Refinery after President Bola Tinubu.

The honour was announced during President Tinubu’s first visit to the refinery, where he also commissioned the Lekki Deep Sea Port concrete road and flagged off Section 2 of the Lagos-Calabar superhighway.

Dangote disclosed that his company is investing N900 billion in road construction across Nigeria, despite paying N450 billion in taxes last year.

The newly named Bola Ahmed Tinubu Road connects the refinery to key infrastructure, including the Sagamu-Benin Expressway.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces, has ordered rescheduling of the Federal Executive Council meeting till another date to be announced.

Initially scheduled for today, the council meeting was postponed in honour of Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, who passed away on Tuesday night.

General Lagbaja served as the Chief of Army Staff from June 19, 2023, till his death on November 5, 2024.

President Tinubu also ordered flags to be flown at half-staff nationwide for seven days in honour of the departed general.

Earlier today, President Tinubu expressed his heartfelt condolences to the Lagbaja family and the Nigerian Armed Forces.

He wished Lt. General Lagbaja eternal peace and honoured his significant contributions to the nation.

The Minister of Defence, Badaru Abubakar, has instructed the troops of 17 Brigade Katsina to end the persisting insecurity and banditry in Katsina State, saying President Bola Tinubu “is ready to provide everything” needed to combat insecurity.

The minister gave the instruction while addressing journalists at the Katsina – Zamfara States border town, Gurbin Baure in the Jibia Local Government area of Katsina State on Friday while addressing troops at the 17 brigade.

Reports has it that, the defence minister was in the state to access and receive briefings on the ongoing military attacks against banditry.

The minister, told the troops that President Bola Tinubu was pleased with the progress made by the troops in fighting against banditry over the past few months.

He further added that, President Bola Tinubu has recognised the improvement in the onslaught operation against banditry in the state so far.

“President Tinubu has asked me to thank you and to also encourage you to do more in ending insecurity in these operational areas.”

The Minister, while speaking to journalists said “For the last few months there has been progress every day and I believe that all the states are cooperating in ending banditry in the North-West. We need a lot of support from the general public.

“I came here by road to assess our deployment there. Zaria-Gusau Road has been very notorious for kidnappers. We have implemented new plans and improved our deployment there and I am impressed with what I see in ending consistent attacks of motorists in the area.

The minister was accompanied by the Commander, Joint Task Force North-West Operation Fansar Yamma, Maj Gen Oluyinka Soyele and was received by the Commander 17 Brigade Katsina State, Brig. Gen. B.O Omopariola.
