A renowned Kano-based Islamic cleric, Chief Imam of Ansarisunnah Mosque, Sheikh Aminu Daurawa, has paid tribute to the late Dr. Ahmad Ibrahim Bamba (popularly known as Dr. Ahmad BUK) who passed on on Friday morning, 7-1-2022 after a brief illness.

The Daily Reality has reported how the funeral prayer of Dr. Ahmad saw thousands of attendees amidst tears and condolences that were rained both online and offline.

At his Adabul Mufrad lesson, Sheikh Daurawa said, “This is the day we should all pray for him and may God reward him for his service to Islam. People know his with “ƙala haddathana.” He spent all his life seeking and imparting knowledge. Those of us that have been with him know the kind of struggle he had—in Madinah while seeking for knowledge and his coming to BUK since 90s.”

Sheikh Daurawa added: “Allah blessed him (Dr. BUK) with the patience to impart knowledge. He was able to spend over 30 years teaching Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi, Nisa’i and Ibn Majah—these are the books called Kutubu as-Sittah. He also taught Muwaɗɗa Malik, Sunan Darimi and died while teaching Sharhus-Sunnah of Imam Al- Bagawy. We, therefore, have nothing to give to the doctor except to pray to Allah to accept all his deeds. And may Allah grant him Jannah.”

“His passing on on Friday where thousands of people attended his funeral prayer were indicators that he was blessed.”

The cleric recalled how Dr Ahmad facilitated in buying him his first car [Toyota], Gombe tafsir and gave him several gifts.

“Dr likes to see me wearing a turban. He rounded my head with it several times. There was also a time I went to him without it. He asked Prof. Ahmad Murtala to wear it for me,” Daurawa concluded.

The Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Brigadier General Mohammad Buba Marwa’s (retd) wife has passed on.

A statement at the instance of the family confirmed Hajia Zainab Marwa died at the early hours of Saturday after a brief brief illness at the age of 66.

The deceased, a native of Imo State, was known for championing the cause of women and the girl-child during her life time.

She left behind adult children : Abubakar, Mohammad Jr , Mariam, Zainab and 10 grandchildren, as well as her siblings and aged mother.

Kano State Commissioner of Education, Muhammad Sanusi Sa’id Kiru, has debunked the wide circulated rumour for the extention of first term resumption date.

Kiru said that the remour is baseless, adding that the resumption dates for Boarding Primary and Secondary Schools remain Sunday 9th January 2022 while that for the Day schools is 10th January 2022. The dismiss was in a release signed Saturday by Aliyu Yusuf, the CPRO Ministry of Education Kano State.

However, the commissioner also called on parents/guardians and the general public to disregard the rumour going round about extension of resumption date.

He added that the ministry has its estsblished means of dessiminating information to members of the public, therefore, if there is any new development, such medium will be used to reach members of the public accordingly. He then called on parents/guardians to ensure that their children return to their respective schools on the scheduled dates as penalties awaits defaulters.

President Muhammadu Buhari, on Friday, January 7, 2022, appointed Mr Ayodeji Ariyo Gbaleyi as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Federal Mortgage Bank (FMBN).

A statement on the verified Facebook account of presidential spokesperson Mr Femi Adesina confirms the appointment.

In describing the appointee, the statement reads,” A Chartered Accountant and an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Taxation, Gbaleyi is a well-known financial expert who was once a Commissioner for Finance in Lagos as well as a player in the aviation sector.”

He added that Mr Gbaleyi replaced Chief Adesoji Adeeyo, who passed on recently.

The national leadership of the Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’a wa Iqamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS) alias Izala, headed by Sheikh Abdullahi Bala Lau, has in a meeting held in Abuja on Wednesday asked its controversial national secretary, Dr Ibrahim Jalo Jalingo, to desist from discussing and publicising controversial issues.

This is coming amidst the criticism and bashing Dr Jalo receives, especially on social media, over his position that the parents of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) “would not be in Heaven.”

The Islamic organisation’s statement released through its Facebook page said the meeting was held by its top-ranking executive members. It has resolved to make it necessary for any member cleric to have a knowledge-driven discussion before publicising any controversial topic.

It also asked all its social media handlers to pull down any content that promotes the controversial thought of the secretary, adding that what is now required is prayer looking at the security challenges bedevilling the country. 

Many people describe Dr Jalo’s position as balderdash and disrespectful to the person of the Prophet (SAW).

A man from Igege in Osun State was apprehended with mutilated human body parts on Wednesday. His identity, however, could not be confirmed immediately.

Some residents were said to have notified security agents after becoming suspicious of the man’s movements.

The suspect was forced to bring out mangled human body parts from a bag while several bystanders beat him with sticks and screamed profanity at him, according to video footage captured at the scene of the crime.

The suspect could also be heard in the video denying his involvement in ritual killings and criticising persons he claims to have set him up.

Residents attempted to lynch the man, and members of the Hunters Group of Nigeria and the Amotekun Corps were brought to the scene.

Sunday Olaifa, Chairman of the OlaOluwa South East Local Council Development Authority, informed our correspondent that once the man was apprehended, villagers attempted to lynch him, but he was saved by security personnel.

Olaifa, who said he had to rush to Igege to appeal to the villagers, sought a thorough probe into the situation to guarantee that justice was delivered.

One of the renowned businessmen and philanthropists in Nigeria, Alhaji Aminu Dantata, has said that the current system of government has failed Nigeria.

Dantata stated this when he received a condolence visit by the Northern Elders Forum over the death of Sani Dangote and Othman Bashir Tofa.

He added that there is a need for a collaborative effort by the elders in order to bring to an end the disturbing multiple problems facing the country.

“You will agree with me that the Presidential system of government presently in operation has failed the nation; what we need now is to adopt the parliamentary system, which is less expensive,” he said.

Reports disclosed those on the entourage included General Sale Maina, Hakeem Baba Ahmed, President Coalition of Northern Groups, Nastura Shariff, Dr Sadiq Gombe, Hajiya Najaatu Mohammed, among others.

The Northern Elders Forum had also called on the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, Deputy Governor Nasiru Gawuna, and Alhaji Yahya Hamma.

President Muhammadu, on Wednesday, while granting an interview on Channels TV, reportedly said he had a favourite successor.

The President, whose tenure will be over in less than two years, dropped the bombshell during an exclusive interview on Channels TV on Wednesday, January 5, 2022.

However, the president refused to state who the favourite successor was on the ground of their safety.

The President, in his own words, ” I wouldn’t (mention the name of my favourite successor) because he may be eliminated if I do. I better keep that a secret.”

The interview has generated ripples and different reactions across the political spectrum in the country.

The foremost human rights activist and former senator, Shehu Sani, aligns with President Muhammadu Buhari’s position on having a police force under the control of state governments. The president has adamantly refused to consider state police a viable option despite Nigeria’s several security challenges and calls from different quarters. 

In an exclusive interview with Channels TV on Wednesday, January 5, 2022, the president reiterated his previous position regarding the issue.

Meanwhile, Shehu Sani, who has been critical of the Buhari administration, especially on poor management of the country’s security challenges, surprised many by agreeing with the president. He cited abuse of the police institution by state governors as part of his reasons on his official Facebook account following the president’s interview.

A 14-year-old housemaid identified as Favour Iwuozor has allegedly abducted her mistress’s two-year-old son, planning to take him to Amraku Umorsu in Isiala/Mberna Local Government Area, Imo State.

Daily Post reported that the maid took the boy from a Sunday school class in church, pretending the mother sent her, but she made away with him and started begging for alms to raise money for transportation.

The maid had identified the 2-year old abducted boy as her younger brother left behind by their parents, who she lied died in an accident in December.

Reports have disclosed that while begging for alms at Yaba, Lagos, one Victoria Nwafor, who observed that the boy was very ill, took both of them to her house in the Sagamu area of Ogun State on December 22, 2021.

Mr Abimbola Oyeyemi, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, has confirmed the incident on Tuesday, 4th January 2022.

He said: “immediately the boy fully recovered, the suspect wanted to single-handedly take him to Imo State,” saying this aroused the woman’s suspicion; hence she reported at Sagamu police division on Monday.

“Upon the report, the DPO of Sagamu division, CSP Okiki Agunbiade, detailed his detectives to go and bring the girl and the little boy.

“On interrogation, the girl confessed that she was a maid to the mother of the little boy and that she left with the boy since the 19th of December, 2021, with the intention of taking the boy to Amraku Umorsu in Isiala/Mberna Local Government Area of Imo State,” Oyeyemi explained.

Oyeyemi added that the maid had confessed that “she took the baby from the church during Sunday school period, and since the Sunday school teacher knows her with the baby’s mother, she had no problem releasing the boy to her.”
