Army hands over suspected killer of FUNAAB student to police

The Nigerian Army has apprehended 23-year-old Adeleye Ayomide, suspected of being the killer of Christiana Idowu, a 300-level student of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), who was abducted in Lagos State.

The Lagos State Police Command confirmed the handover of the suspect on Thursday, following an investigation into the incident.

According to Lagos Police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin, Ayomide was handed over by the Nigerian Army’s 9 Brigade at about 2 p.m. on September 5.

The late Christiana was kidnapped along the Ikorodu-Yaba Road on August 19, sparking public outrage, especially on social media.

The hashtag #JusticeForChristianah has gained traction, with many Nigerians calling for justice.

A user on social media, going by “Man of Letters,” shared details of how the suspect, who was reportedly in a close relationship with Christiana based on their interactions on Instagram, was tracked down.

Security operatives traced Ayomide through his mobile phone, leading to his arrest at his parents’ house in Ikorodu.

Among the evidence recovered from the suspect was the victim’s blue ITEL A56 phone.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to bring justice for the slain student.

Teenager detained after stabbing teacher in Western France

An 18-year-old pupil was detained on Monday after stabbing his schoolteacher in the face and fleeing the scene, authorities said.

The teacher from Lycee de l’Hyrome in Chemille-en-Anjou, western France, “suffered a facial injury that is not life-threatening”, according to a joint statement from the authorities, including the prefect and public prosecutor. 

The attack occurred on Monday morning, and the suspect quickly escaped through a window, abandoning his weapon.

He was later detained by gendarmes and municipal police.

The authorities stated that the young man was not previously known to the police and that counseling was provided to pupils and teachers after the attack. 

This incident is the latest in a series of school incidents involving attacks on teachers and school children by their peers in France in recent years.

In response to these incidents, French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal announced measures in April to crack down on teenage violence in and around schools, as the government seeks to reclaim ground on security from the far-right ahead of upcoming European elections.

Family feud turns fatal as brother stabbed to death in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command apprehended Isyaku Babale, 30, following the tragic demise of his brother during a heated dispute.

In a statement released by SP Ahmed Wakil, the police disclosed that the arrest came after the victim succumbed to his injuries at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) Bauchi.

“Isyaku Babale, a resident of Anguwan Dawaki, was detained by operatives from the township Police Divisional headquarters for an alleged culpable homicide,” stated SP Ahmed Wakil.

He continued, “Initial investigations unveiled that the suspect employed a knife, fatally stabbing his older sibling during an altercation that erupted between them on March 31st, 2024, around 04:00hrs.”

Reportedly, the dispute ignited when Babale urged his brother to cease consuming Cold Patch liquid, locally known as ‘Sholi,’ due to its foul odor.

The disagreement escalated into a physical confrontation, leading to the fatal stabbing. Further inquiries revealed a history of violent altercations involving dangerous weapons between the siblings.

Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Mohammed, has directed a comprehensive investigation to ascertain any underlying motives behind the incident, emphasizing the importance of bringing the perpetrator to justice through legal proceedings.

Man remanded for allegedly raping co-worker to death

A 35-year-old man, James Emmanuel, has been remanded in prison by a magistrates’ court in Akure, Ondo State, for allegedly raping his co-worker, 55-year-old Deborah Abiodun, to death.

The incident took place on a poultry farm in the Oke-Odu area of Akure around 11pm on January, 2024.

According to the prosecutor, Inspector Anwana Josephine, the defendant allegedly raped Ms. Abiodun to death and then struck her with a stone on the forehead before dumping her corpse inside a waste pit.

Magistrate F.A. Aduroja adjourned the case to March 27th after ordering the remand of the accused.

Tragedy as ex-student stabs teacher to death in Taraba

Mr Bassey Sardauna, a secondary school teacher at Government Model School, Jalingo, met a tragic end when he was fatally stabbed by a former student, who remains at large, on Thursday evening.

The incident was confirmed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Usman. 

According to Usman, the attack occurred in a tricycle following an earlier altercation between the teacher and his assailant, identified as James Williams.

The police are actively pursuing Williams, emphasizing their commitment to bringing him to justice. 

In a statement condemning the attack, Dr Augustina Godwin, the state Commissioner for Education, shed light on the events leading to the tragedy.

The confrontation began when the former student, accompanied by a friend, walked through a line of students awaiting inspection.

An argument ensued after the deceased teacher questioned the behavior. 

“The deceased asked why he walked through the students instead of passing behind them and while the former student made his way back to follow as the deceased teacher had directed, his friend asked why he should obey and do what the deceased said.

“From there commotion started and the deceased hit one of the two of them with a stick. The former student came to the school because he wanted one of his teachers to sign his Air Force application form, which his father made a call earlier asking for assistance for his son from one of the teachers.

“When the incident got to the knowledge of the school authority, they quickly called for the local vigilante in the area to keep watch over the school until closing time. The vigilante personnel left the school shortly before closing time. Some teachers decided to go with the deceased to take a tricycle the boys who were hiding attacked and stabbed him, leading to his death,” explained Commissioner Godwin. 

Governor Agbu Kefas, responding to the incident, has directed a thorough investigation and increased security surveillance to prevent such tragedies in the future.

In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Digital Communication, Mr Emmanuel Bello, the Governor expressed profound sadness and called for swift justice for the grieving family and the school community.

Bauchi woman murders late co-wife’s baby

The Police Command in Bauchi has apprehended 24-year-old Furera Abubakar in connection with the alleged murder of her four-day-old stepchild in Bantu village in the state’s Ningi Local Government Area. 

On Tuesday in Bauchi, SP Ahmed Wakil, the command’s spokesman, made a statement that confirmed the incident. He revealed that they had detained the suspect in connection with an alleged case of culpable homicide. 

“The incident was reported to the Ningi Divisional Police headquarters on the 19th of August, 2023 which revealed that the four-day-old baby was born on the 15th of August, 2023 and was murdered by the suspect (Furera) on the 19th of August, 2023 before the naming ceremony. 

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect is a co-wife to the nursing mother (deceased mother). 

“The suspect entered her co-wife’s room with liquid insecticide and applied it to the unhealed baby’s umbilical cord. 

“The liquid suspected to be corrosive substance led to the deterioration of the baby’s health and eventual death,” he said. 

He added that the suspect would be charged in court once the investigation is completed.

Woman murdered, set ablaze over accusation of witchcraft

A mother of four in Cross River State, Mrs. Martina Itagbor, was murdered by some frustrated youths over accusation of a witchcraf in Akamkpa Local Government Area of the state.

The deceased was accused of witchcraft following the death of two brothers in a motor accident. It was on the heels of the accusations that the mother of four was beaten to death and her fingers chopped off.

It was reported that the frustrstrated youths also set her dead body ablaze, a development many people described as horrible.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Gyogon Grimah, directed that the perpetrators be tracked down, arrested and prosecuted according to the law.

This was relayed Saturday in a statement by the Command’s PPRO, SP Irene Ugbo, and made available to journalists in Calabar, the state’s capital.

The statement reads in part, “The issue of jungle justice is one crime that the Police does not take lightly and, as such, we have already commenced manhunt for those responsible for the dastardly act.

“Those responsible, no matter how highly placed, will be arrested and prosecuted according to the laws of the land.

“We are going to treat them like the criminals that they are, and no stone would be left unturned on this matter.

“They can only run but won’t hide. Enough is enough. Jungle justice is not the solution.All those involved in the murder of Mrs Itagbor would be brought to book, and the law will take it’s full cause. We won’t relent until they are in our custody,” CP Grimah assured.

Kogi man allegedly murdered stepmother

A man identified as Idris Aminu, has allegedly murdered his 75- years- old stepmother in the Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The incident happened in the afternoon of Monday while the deceased was having her siesta.

According to reports, Aminu clubbed the stepmother, Salamatu Aminu to death with a pestle after failed attempts to poison her.

The accused had accused the deceased of witchcraft and blamed her for his failures in life.

Confirming the incident, the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, William Ayah said the suspect has been arrested by the command and will be charged to court as soon as possible.

He further disclosed that the old woman was sleeping when her stepson killed her with a pestle.

Man kills biological mother in Kano

Ibrahim Musa, alias Iro Kwarangwal, 22, from Kano, allegedly killed his 50-year-old biological mother, Jummai, by stabbing her during an argument.
 
The unfortunate incident occurred on Wednesday at around 5:30 p.m. in the Karshen Kwalta and Rimin Kebe apartments in the Ungogo Local Government Area of the state.
 
An eyewitness said, “I was standing outside my house when I suddenly heard screaming from the deceased residence.”
 
He stated that when he ran in to see if he could help, he discovered the dead woman wailing for assistance in a pool of her own blood.
 
The culprit is said to have left the scene quickly after allegedly committing the horrible crime against his mother, according to the eyewitness.
 
The deceased was later brought to the hospital on a tricycle with blood all over her body, according to the witness, and was later declared dead there.
 
“She had since yesterday been buried in accordance with Islamic rites. May Allah forgive her and admit her to paradise,” the witness prayed.
 
When reached, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Kano Police Command’s public relations officer, confirmed the incident.

DSP Kiyawa later added, via his verified Facebook page, that they arrested the suspect at a hideout in Dawakin Tofa, after which he (Iro) “confessed to the crime and also confessed to dealing in illicit drug abuse.

He will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.”

How woman kills landlord over dispute on electricity bill in Ogun

A dispute over an electricity bill in Ogun State has led to the murder of a 50-year-old landlord, Monday Surulere, by a female tenant, Ifeoma Ossai, on Monday.

It was reported that the woman had a fight with Surulere over the electricity bill, which led to his death after she grabbed his manhood and dragged him with it.

However, The Daily Reality gathered that the woman was arrested by the Operatives of the Ogun Police Command on Monday.

Her arrest followed a report lodged at Sango Ota divisional headquarters by one Olaleye Taiwo, the landlord’s brother.

According to the Police Spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, following the report, the DPO Ota division, Saleh Dahiru, led his detectives to the scene, where the suspect was arrested and taken into custody for investigation.

He stated, “On interrogation, the suspect claimed that the deceased asked her to pay for the electricity bill, but she insisted that until water is directly connected to her apartment as promised by the landlord before she packed in, she will not pay the electricity or any other utility bill.

“This led to a scuffle between them consequence upon which the suspect grabbed the manhood of the deceased and dragged him with it.

“The deceased subsequently slumped, and he was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead by a doctor on duty,” Oyeyemi said.

Meanwhile, the corpse of the deceased has been deposited at the hospital mortuary for a postmortem, and the suspect has been transferred to the Homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
