Gov Yusuf sends delegation to Edo over killing of northern travelers

The Kano State government has set up a high-powered delegation to engage with the Edo State government following the mob killing of 16 northern travelers in Uromi, Edo State.

Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Waiya, disclosed this, stating that the delegation’s mandate is to collaborate with the Edo State government in identifying the perpetrators and ensuring justice for the victims.

Waiya reaffirmed the government’s commitment to securing justice, describing the incident as tragic and deeply concerning.

“The Kano State Government is deeply saddened by the recent incident in Edo State, which claimed the lives of innocent travelers, most of whom were from Kano.

“This development has caused great distress among the government and the people of the state,” Waiya said.

He further revealed that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf approved the delegation’s immediate visit to Edo State.

The team will not only engage with Edo authorities but also meet with the Hausa community leadership in the state to discuss the situation and explore possible resolutions.

“The victims, who were on a lawful journey from Port Harcourt through Uromi, deserve justice, and the Kano State Government is committed to ensuring their rights are protected,” he added.

The government urged citizens to remain calm and avoid any actions that could escalate tensions.

It assured the public that necessary diplomatic and legal measures were in place to address the situation while maintaining communication with Edo State officials and security agencies.

Additionally, the Kano State Government extended its condolences to the victims’ families, praying for the peaceful repose of their souls.

Waiya stated the government’s unwavering commitment to protecting its people and ensuring that justice prevails.

FG to launch cultural villages nationwide to boost tourism, creative industry

The Federal Government has announced plans to establish “Renewed Hope Cultural Villages” across all 36 states to promote Nigeria’s cultural heritage and strengthen the creative industry.

Speaking in Ilorin, Abiola Jagunlabi, Special Assistant to the Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, revealed that the initiative is part of the “Renewed Hope Cultural Project,” designed to preserve historical sites, enhance tourism, and drive economic growth.

According to Jagunlabi, the project will be executed in collaboration with state governments to transform historic landmarks into creative hubs, fostering job creation and economic opportunities in the arts and entertainment sectors.

“The project focuses on restoring and conserving monuments, palaces, and artifacts while promoting cultural education and capacity building in traditional crafts,” he stated.

Jagunlabi noted that the success of the initiative depends on active participation from state governments, local communities, and industry stakeholders.

He noted that the project aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and is expected to generate significant employment opportunities while boosting revenue through tourism and creative enterprises.

He further disclosed that the National Economic Council (NEC) has approved the initiative, paving the way for its nationwide implementation.

NBA Ungogo decries killing of 16 northern travelers, demands justice

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ungogo Branch, has strongly condemned the killing of 16 northern travelers in Edo State, describing the act as a gross violation of human rights.  

In a statement issued on Monday, the chairman of the branch, Ahmad A. Gwadabe, expressed deep concern over the tragic incident, calling it “gruesome and unacceptable.”  

“We are appalled and deeply disturbed by the murder of innocent travelers who were simply passing through the state. This act goes against the principles of humanity and decency,” Gwadabe stated.  

He called on the Edo State Government and security agencies to swiftly investigate the matter and ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice. 

“We demand immediate and decisive action to hold those responsible accountable,” he added.  

The association also urged the government to provide compensation to the families of the victims and implement measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.  

“As lawyers, we are committed to upholding the rule of law and promoting justice for all citizens, regardless of their ethnicity, religion, or place of origin,” Gwadabe emphasized.  

The statement concluded with a call for calm, urging the affected families to remain law-abiding while seeking justice.

Venezuelans show support for Palestine during Quds Day event

The Quds Day event in Venezuela’s capital, Caracas, attracted strong participation on Friday evening, with Venezuelans, local Muslims, and members of the Iranian and Palestinian communities attending in large numbers.

Speakers representing pro-Palestine organizations took the stage to denounce the actions of the Zionist regime and stress the importance of global backing for the Palestinian cause.

They noted, “The cause of Palestine is a cause of humanity,” reaffirming their dedication to standing against oppression and imperialism.

The event was held at Plaza de Juventud, a prominent square in Caracas, and included various programs such as live music and street theater performances.

These activities contributed to a dynamic atmosphere, further strengthening the sense of unity among supporters of Palestine.

Also, a declaration condemning Israel was publicly read during the gathering, and attendees were invited to sign a petition reflecting the same message.

To close the program, a short film titled Hide and Seek, directed by Iranian filmmaker Morteza Sazandeh, was screened for the audience.

The organization of the Quds Day event involved Venezuelan citizens, the country’s Ministry of Culture, the Cultural Attaché of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Venezuela, local NGOs advocating for Palestine, and Iran’s Art Bureau of the Islamic Ideology Dissemination Organization.

Sustain Ramadan virtues, support less privileged – Governor Yusuf

The Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has extended warm Eid-el-Fitr greetings to Muslims in Kano and beyond, urging them to uphold the virtues of patience, compassion, and unity cultivated during Ramadan.  

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Sunday, the governor emphasized the need to sustain the spirit of sacrifice and selflessness, encouraging citizens to support the less privileged and promote harmony in their communities.  

Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving living conditions by ensuring economic growth, social welfare, and infrastructural development. 

He also stressed the importance of peaceful coexistence among different ethnic and religious groups, describing unity as Kano’s greatest strength.  

Addressing the recent killing of Kano indigenes in Edo State, the governor expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and vowed that his government would not rest until the perpetrators were identified and brought to justice.  

He urged citizens to use the festive period to strengthen family bonds, promote reconciliation, and foster peace. 

He also called on them to emulate the exemplary character of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) by upholding justice, honesty, and compassion in all dealings.

Sanusi cautions Kano youths against retaliatory attacks over Edo killings

The 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has urged youths in the state to refrain from retaliatory attacks following the killing of 16 northern travelers in Edo State.  

Speaking after leading the two-rakat Eid-el-Fitr prayer at the Kofar Mata Eid ground, the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) warned against taking the law into their own hands, emphasizing the need for peace and order.  

“We received reports that some youths in certain areas are planning to carry out reprisal attacks after the Eid prayers. We strongly urge them not to do so,” Sanusi stated.  

He called on authorities to act swiftly in ensuring justice for the victims, stressing that an investigation should be conducted to bring the perpetrators to justice.  

Similarly, the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, also appealed for prompt action, urging relevant authorities to ensure that those responsible for the killings are held accountable.  

Meanwhile, Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, alongside his deputy, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, and other government officials, joined worshippers in observing the Eid prayers.  

Sanusi further reminded the Muslim faithful to uphold the lessons of Ramadan and avoid returning to acts of wrongdoing.

Breaking: New moon of Shawwal sighted in Nigeria—Sultan

The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has announced the sighting of the new moon of Shawwal in Nigeria, signalling the end of Ramadan.

The Daily Reality reports that Sultan announced this shortly in a broadcast in Sokoto, on Saturday.

He was qouted to have said,”Today 29th day of March,2025 equivalent to 29th day of Ramadan 1446AH.

“Today 29th day of Ramadan, we received reports from various Muslims leaders and organisations, such as Shehu of Borno, Emir of Dutse, Emir of Argungun, Emir of Daura and also the leadership of JIBWIS in Jos of the sighting of the new moon 1446AH, therefore tomorrow, 30th March, makes it 1st of Shawwal 1446AH and also the Eid-el-Fitr,” he added.

Police falsify reports of Kano killings

The Kano State Police Command has dismissed a false social media reports claiming an attack on an 18-seater passenger bus in Kano.

This was revealed in a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, in Kano on Saturday.

Kiyawa said this report was entirely false and misleading.

“The police command reaffirms its commitment to maintaining law and order, ensuring the safety and security of all residents, and promoting harmony among diverse communities.

“An investigation is currently underway to uncover the source of this fake news, and those responsible will face consequences for their actions.

“The command urges the public to disregard this fake news and refrain from spreading unverified information that can cause harm, panic and unrest in society,” he stated.

FRSC deploys 1,889 personnel for sallah special patrol in Kano

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Kano Sector Command has deployed 1,889 personnel for a special Eid-el-Fitr patrol operation aimed at ensuring smooth vehicular movement and safety on highways.

The Sector Commander, Ibrahim Abdullahi Matazu, stated that the operation, scheduled to run from March 27 to April 2, includes 1,348 regular marshals and 541 special marshals.

The Daily Reality reports that their duties will include traffic control, enforcement of road safety regulations, and providing immediate assistance to accident victims.

Matazu urged motorists to adhere to traffic rules, warning against reckless driving, underage driving, and car racing during the festive period.

“The FRSC Kano Sector Command wishes the good people of the state a peaceful and hitch-free Sallah celebration,” he said.

Police arrest 30 over killing of northern travelers in Edo

The Edo State Police Command has arrested over 30 suspects in connection with the brutal killing of 16 northern travelers and the burning of their truck in Udune Efandion.  

The Daily Reality reports that the attack occurred on Thursday along the Uromi/Obajana Expressway.  

Confirming the arrests in a statement on Friday in Benin, the command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Moses Yamu, condemned the killings and assured that justice would be served.  

Yamu stated that the police were committed to ensuring justice for the victims and that no stone would be left unturned in the ongoing investigation.  

He revealed that a truck carrying 25 travelers from Elele, Rivers State, was intercepted by a vigilante group in Uromi. 

During the stop, some travelers were reportedly found in possession of locally made dane guns, raising suspicion among the vigilantes.  

“While this was ongoing, some vigilante members raised an alarm, claiming the travelers were suspected kidnappers. 

This led some community members and passers-by to attack and lynch 16 occupants. The truck conveying them was also set on fire,” Yamu said.  

Police operatives from the Uromi Division swiftly responded to the scene and managed to rescue ten of the travelers, two of whom sustained injuries. 

The injured victims were taken to a hospital and are currently responding to treatment.  

“In the course of investigations, 14 suspects have been arrested in connection with the crime. An emergency meeting was also convened with stakeholders and community members,” Yamu added.  

Meanwhile, a unit of the Police Mobile Force and other tactical teams have been deployed to the area to prevent further violence.  

The Commissioner of Police in Edo, Betty Otimenyin, urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement while cautioning against reprisal attacks or unlawful gatherings that could escalate tensions.
