The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has dismissed as false a viral social media post claiming to reveal the number of shortlisted candidates per state for the final stage of its 2025 recruitment exercise.

In a public disclaimer, the Service clarified that the publication did not originate from any of its official communication channels and urged the public, especially applicants, to disregard the information entirely.

According to the NCS, the ongoing recruitment process began with an official advertisement on December 27, 2024, attracting a total of 573,523 applications across the Superintendent, Inspectorate, and Customs Assistant cadres. After an initial documentary screening, 286,697 candidates were shortlisted for the first phase of the Computer-Based Test (CBT).

The Service further explained that while all cadres took part in the CBT, only successful applicants under the Superintendent Cadre were invited for the second phase, which will be conducted across the six geopolitical zones in line with candidates’ states of origin.

The NCS reaffirmed its commitment to a transparent, fair, and merit-driven recruitment process, in accordance with the Federal Character principle. It also advised applicants to rely solely on official updates via the NCS Recruitment Update Portal at https://updates.customs.gov.ng for verified information.

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has scheduled Thursday, October 9, 2025, for the main online recruitment examination for shortlisted candidates in the Inspectorate and Customs Assistant cadres.

This was disclosed in a public notice released by the Service on Tuesday through its verified online platforms.

According to the announcement, applicants have been divided into three batches: A, B, and C. They are expected to log in to the official recruitment portal, using their National Identification Number (NIN) to confirm their batch, date, and examination time.

“The Main Online Recruitment Examination for all shortlisted Inspectorate and Customs Assistant Cadre applicants has been scheduled for Thursday, 9th October 2025,” the notice stated.

The Customs Service emphasised that strict adherence to the assigned batch and time was compulsory, warning that failure to comply could lead to disqualification.

Candidates were further cautioned against using calculators, mobile phones, or any other electronic devices during the test.

“Applicants are strongly advised against multiple logins or switching browser windows while taking the examination, as this may affect their participation,” the Service added.

The NCS also clarified that the upcoming examination was strictly for candidates in the Inspectorate and Customs Assistant cadres, noting that those under the Superintendent cadre would be scheduled for a later phase of the recruitment process.

“Only Inspectorate and Customs Assistant Cadre applicants are to take part in this stage of the examination. Applicants of the Superintendent Cadre are not to participate at this stage,” the statement concluded.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has called for special funding to address the Nigerian Army’s accommodation crisis as it prepares to receive 13,000 new recruits.

Speaking during a visit by the Senate Committee on Army to the Army Headquarters in Abuja, Oluyede lamented that current budgetary allocations under the envelope system are insufficient to meet operational and welfare needs.

“We lack the resources to house these new personnel, and the problem keeps growing,” he said, urging lawmakers to approve dedicated funds for military infrastructure.

Senate Committee Chairman Abdulaziz Yar’Adua pledged support, stating, “The Army should be exempted from envelope budgeting to enhance its capabilities.”

The committee also conducted oversight inspections of projects in multiple states, vowing to push for improved funding before year-end.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has announced an online test for recruitment to its superintendent cadre, including professional and general duties. 

According to the statement by the agency’s director of media and advocacy, Femi Babafemi, the recruitment test will be held between May 8 and 10, 2023 (Monday and Wednesday).

The statement further urges those with successful applications for the superintendent cadre to start checking their email inbox and spam folder from Wednesday, May 3, for notification and further instructions.

The agency has also scheduled a Twitter space for Friday, May 5, between 3 and 5 p.m. to guide applicants on the online test. The session will also be “streamed live on our Facebook, YouTube and Instagram accounts”, part of the statement reads.

Recall that the recruitment applications were submitted between March 12 and April 17, 2023.

Idris Jere, the Nigeria Immigration Department’s (NIS) interim comptroller general (CG), has stated that the service is now seeking to hire an additional 5,000 officers.

This, according to Mr Jere, was made to help the NIS fill a manpower shortage, he said while answering questions from reporters in Dutse on Saturday.

“With regards to inadequate personnel in the NIS, as you know, we’ve just concluded recruitment into the service, and we’re training those recruits now.

“As you’re also aware, the government has placed embargo on recruitment, but lifted that on security agencies, because security is key.

“So, we’ve written to the President and I’m very sure we will get approval to recruit about 5,000 more personnel into the NIS,” Mr Jere said.

He noted that President Muhammadu Buhari had received a memorandum from Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola, who expressed his readiness to grant the request.

The CG travelled to Jigawa to visit hospitalized personnel and offer condolences to the family of one of its officers, who was slain on August 9 by suspected bandits.

The personnel were attacked at one of the Immigration Service’s bases in the state’s Birniwa Local Government Area, which is along the Birniwa-Galadi axis.

The Nigerian Army has released the dates for the 83 Regular Intake 2022 screening process for non-tradesmen and women applicants.

“The state recruitment screening exercise is scheduled to commence from 28 June – 11 July 2022 in all the 36 states and Federal Capital Territory Abuja,” the Army says in a tweeted public statement on Tuesday.

“A high standard of discipline is expected from all candidates. Candidates who violate any instruction during the Recruitment Screening Exercise would be disqualified,” the tweet added.

Applicants have also been advised to visit the recruitment portal at https://recruitment.army.mil.ng for the online application form.
