Following the Court of Appeal upholding the removal of Abba Yusuf as Kano state governor, the national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, expressed optimism about the party’s success at the Supreme Court.

Ganduje, applauding the appellate court for delivering justice, confidently stated that the APC is prepared to face the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) again in the apex court. 

Addressing the media in Abuja on Friday, Ganduje acknowledged the democratic right of NNPP to pursue legal avenues, saying, “There is nothing wrong for them to go to the Supreme Court. We too, are ready to meet them in the Supreme Court. And Inshallah, we will win in the Supreme Court as well.”

The APC national chairman also commended the judiciary for its impartiality, praising the victories of the party’s gubernatorial candidates in Kano and Zamfara states.

In a statement, APC’s national publicity secretary, Felix Mokar, underscored the judiciary’s independence, emphasizing its role as the bastion of hope for justice in democracy.

Mokar urged the judiciary to remain resilient against any attempts at blackmail or intimidation by self-serving political interests.

The Court of Appeal in Abuja upheld the Kano Governorship Election Petition Tribunal’s decision, declaring Nasiru Gawuna of the APC as the rightful winner.

The appeal by NNPP candidate and current Kano State governor, Abba Yusuf, was dismissed.

The initial tribunal ruling on September 20 ousted Yusuf and declared Gawuna winner.

Despite Yusuf’s appeal through counsel Wole Olanipekun, the Court of Appeal affirmed Gawuna’s victory, concluding the legal battle over the March 18 governorship poll.

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, a member of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), has responded to the recent State Tribunal judgement that quashed his election victory with unwavering determination and optimism, describing the ruling as a “temporary setback.” 

In his statement following the judgement, Governor Yusuf expressed his commitment to continuing the positive work initiated for the people of Kano State, declaring, “It will not dampen my morale, as we will continue to do good works we have started for the good people of Kano State.” 

Governor Yusuf and his supporters firmly believe that the tribunal’s decision was marred by errors and misapplications of the law. He expressed confidence that the ruling would not stand in subsequent appeals, including those at the Supreme Court. 

He defended the integrity of his election, stating, “My election was testified to be upright and just; the people of Kano came out en masse to cast their votes for me, so nobody will sit down and upturn my victory.” 

In a plea to his supporters and the entire population of Kano, the governor urged them to remain law-abiding and patient throughout this legal process. 

He reassured them that the recent judgement did not signify an immediate exit from office, emphasising, “The judgement does not in any way mean that we are just going out of government; we are still in power.

Even tomorrow, we are going to hold the weekly Executive Council Meeting to come out with laudable projects.” 

Concluding his statement, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf firmly asserted, “The judgement will not dampen our morale because it is a temporary setback. We will get justice at the Apex Court.” 

As the legal battle unfolds, Kano State remains in anticipation of further developments, with Governor Yusuf and his party gearing up to pursue justice through the higher courts.

Kano State Deputy Governor and All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate, Dr Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna said no serious government will succeed without the contributions of Civil Society Organizations (CSO’s) and Non-Governmental organizations (NGO’s).

Gawuna made this statement on Monday, 14th November, 2022 during a continuation of interactive session series organised by a coalition of 21 Kano CSO’s and NGO’s aiming to promote peace and development of Kano State.

Gawuna said, “We are not enemies of NGO’s. That’s why we are here. We’ll work together with NGO’s and CSO’S especially on the issues concerning education, youth and women.

“In many places, government alone cannot do all it’s work. They need the intervention of NGO’s. I have seen one person in Kenya teaching the whole school. We too here are going to involve NGO’s in improvising classrooms to cater the needs of our school pupils,” he stressed.

“I urge you journalists, NGO’s and CSO’s to to enlighten people about the activities of government and its programmes,” Gawuna appealed.

Other issues the APC candidate discussed were his development agenda on employment, health, education, agriculture, infrastructure, climate change, etc.

Convened by Dr Aminu Magashi Garba, the sessions allowed the gubernatorial candidates to interact with members of NGO’s, CSO’s, media practitioners and community leaders and share their blueprints on critical areas such health, education, youths, women, environment, commerce, agriculture, technology among others.

The event that commences on 9th November was graced by gubernatorial candidates of People’s Redemption Party (PRP), Salihu Tanko Yakasai; Bala Muhammad Gwagwarwa of Social Democratic Party (SDP), Mal. Ibrahim Khalil of African Democratic Congress (ADC); Engr. Bashir I. Bashir of Labour Party (LP) and Sha’aban Ibrahim Sharada of Action Democratic Party (ADP). Participants were hoping to see Abba Kabir Yusuf of New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and Sadiq Wali of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the subsequent meetings.

The All Progressive Congress (APC) gubernatorial and deputy gubernatorial candidates for Kano state lack the integrity to run for any public office, says the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP).

The party argued that the duo should be prosecuted by now for disrupting the 2019 general election.

This was disclosed in a statement signed and issued Friday by the Spokesperson to the party, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

Dawakin Tofa lambasted the ruling party for giving tickets to Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna and Murtala Sule Garo for their “uncivilized behaviour.”

The Daily Reality recalled that, in a viral video, Gawuna and Garo were seen under police custody after allegedly tearing election results that led the electoral body to declare the 2019 governorship election inconclusive in the state.

The statement said, “It is morally reprehensible for the party to give tickets to those whose videos depict them disrupting elections that have globally smeared the image of Kano.

“It is on record and cannot be disputed that on February 14, 2019, the state police command nabbed two individuals after discovering 14 sacks containing ballots that had been thumb-printed in favour of the APC.

“For the APC to accuse us or any other party of rigging is silly and a public show of lack of shame,” the statement added.
