Dangote Group emerges key player in advancing Nigerian agriculture – NAFN

The National Agricultural Foundation of Nigeria (NAFN) has hailed the Dangote Group as a pivotal force in the growth of the country’s agricultural sector. 

Dr. Samuel Negedu, the National Coordinator of NAFN, affirmed the group’s significance during the opening ceremony of the 2023 National Agricultural Show. 

Describing the Dangote Group as a powerhouse and the backbone of Nigeria’s agricultural landscape, Dr. Negedu highlighted the company’s efforts in constructing rice mills that will significantly contribute to the government’s push for food security.  

He expressed gratitude to Alhaji Aliko Dangote for the establishment of what he referred to as the largest fertiliser plant in Africa. 

Furthermore, Dr. Negedu noted that the Dangote Group is a major sponsor of the ongoing 2023 National Agricultural Show.  

The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, also shared insights during the event, outlining the government’s immediate and short-term plans to establish a standard framework for facilitating agricultural business in the country. 

Senator Kyari expressed the importance of agricultural shows as essential platforms for showcasing the latest developments in the sector. 

He highlighted their role in bringing individuals together for networking and business transactions and offering the public a glimpse into farming life. 

The shows also serve as hubs for farming and rural communities to exchange ideas and take a brief respite from their daily farming routines. 

Dr. Emmanuel Akabe, the Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, urged stakeholders to make substantial investments in agriculture, envisioning a transformed Nigeria renowned for food security and value chain addition. 

Arch Kabiru Ibrahim, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of NAFN and National President of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), underscored the relevance of this year’s theme: “Towards the Realization of Presidential Declaration of Emergency on Food Security.”  

According to Arch Ibrahim, the theme was chosen to inspire all stakeholders in Nigeria to collaborate in addressing the challenges of food security as outlined in President Tinubu’s administration.

Dangote Group boosts national treasury as N474b was paid as taxes in 3 years

Three subsidiaries of the Dangote Group, namely Dangote Sugar, Dangote Cement, and Dangote Salt, have contributed immensely to the nation’s revenue.

Hashem Ahmed, an official representative of the Dangote Group, made this revelation at the 18th Abuja International Trade Fair’s opening ceremony, held on Thursday. 

Speaking on the fair’s theme, ‘Sustainable financing and taxation as drivers of the new economy,’ Ahmed highlighted the Dangote Group’s significant role as a major contributor to the country’s economy.

He disclosed that over the course of three years, the aforementioned subsidiaries of the Dangote Group had paid a staggering total of N474 billion as taxes to the Federal Government. 

“As you may be aware, apart from being the highest employer of labor in the private sector, the Dangote Group is also the biggest taxpayer,” Ahmed stated.

“In just three years, Dangote subsidiaries paid a staggering N474 billion to the Federal Government. These are Dangote Sugar, Dangote Cement, and Dangote Salt, combined.” 

Ahmed further emphasised that this substantial financial contribution was part of the Dangote Group’s ongoing support for the nation.

He highlighted the group’s various initiatives, including empowerment and skill acquisition programmes, corporate social responsibility initiatives, sponsorships, and philanthropic schemes, all of which amounted to several billions of naira. 

The Dangote Group expressed satisfaction with the Federal Government’s efforts in implementing a tax reform policy. This policy is expected to broaden the tax net and provide essential financing for the development of the country’s infrastructure.

The group sees this as a positive step towards sustainable economic growth and development for Nigeria. The significant tax payment by Dangote Group’s subsidiaries not only showcases their financial robustness but also underscores their commitment to supporting the country’s development agenda.

This contribution is anticipated to play a crucial role in the realisation of various national projects and initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of life for all Nigerians.

Dangote Cement graduates 50 ‘Special’ Truck Drivers

The Dangote Articulated Truck Driving School has graduated 50 Special Truck Drivers on weekend.

It was gathered that ten of the drivers were women and trained on Defensive Driving for three months.

A statement signed by the spokesman of the Dangote Group, Mr. Anthony Chiejina, and made available to journalists on Monday, disclosed.

The statement qouted Mr. Ajay Singh, the Divisional Director of the Dangote Cement Plc, Transport section, Obajana Plant, Kogi State, to have said that the Articulated Driving School was aimed at taming the tide of auto crash in Nigeria.

Singh who spoke during the graduation ceremony added that “The company has a zero tolerance for auto crash, which informed the setting up of different programmes, in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

“Head of Human Resources, Mr. Azeez Adeniyi said the Dangote Articulated Truck Driving School, is unique, being the first of its kind in the history of Nigeria,” he stated.

The statement further added that “He (Singh) urged the graduates to maximize the advantages from the training, adding that it was a rare and golden opportunity to have passed through the school.

“The school manager, Mr. Daniel Marcus Akuso, said some of the courses offered for the Batch A include: Civic Education, English, Mathematics, Defensive Driving, Truck Handling, Maintenance Technology, DCT Administration Procedures, Root Cause Analysis, Health and Science, Road Signs and Codes.

“Mr. Akuso said the graduates will now undertake a six-month attachment to enable them to acquire practical experience.

“Speaking, Deputy Road Commandant, (OC Instructor) of the FRSC attached to Dangote Driving School, Engr Mukhtar Umar said his agency plays a significant role in the training and certification of old drivers and newly recruited trainees.

“We teach them defensive driving, road signs, responsibilities of the driver, driving culture, and then certify them. These are Special Drivers,” Engr Umar said.

“Representative of Fantique Driving Centre, South Africa, Mr. Jacques Van Heerden, said the graduates were trained on defensive driving, assuring that if they abide by the lessons learned from the courses, it will help Nigeria in reducing the menace of auto crash.

“On his part, Col Ravig Kumar, Chief General Manager, Maintenance Department, expressed optimism that the female drivers, especially, will make Nigeria proud, while urging them not to disappoint the company, wherever they may find themselves.

“Speaking on behalf of the graduates, Mr. Ajayi Kehinde Daniel, said: “We are not just drivers, but defensive drivers. Throughout this period of training, we have been exposed to the causes of road accidents, and how to avoid them. Some of these causes, if not all, are actually avoidable.”

“Also present at the Graduation Ceremony were: Head of Department, Post Trip Inspection(PTI), Mr. Charles Theophilus, Head of Control, Mr. Suresh Ramamoorthy, Col Hemant Rana, as well as other members of the Fantique Training Centre of South Africa: Pieter Momberg and Anton Schenk,” the statement added.

Dangote Group, China company sign to build cement plant in Ogun

The Dangote Industries Limited (DIL) alongside China Sinoma International Engineering (CSIE) have signed an agreement to build a six million tons per annum cement plant in Itori of Ogun state.

Alh. Aliko Dangote, the Chairman of Dangote Cement Plc, made this disclosure during the signing ceremony.

Dangote stated that he signed the agreement alongside the Group Executive Director, Strategy, Capital Projects & Portfolio Development, DIL, Devakumar Edwin.

While China Sinoma Engineering, on the other hand, was represented by its Group President, Yin Zhisong, and the company’s chairman, Liu Renyue.

Dangote said that the new integrated cement plant at completion would strengthen the local production capacity of Dangote Cement and bring its local capacity to 41.25 million tons per annum and total African capacity to 57.6 million tons per annum.

He further stated that the Nigeria’s capacity to export cement would also be increased, the development that would enable more diversification and foreign exchange inflows for the economy.

He also noted that the project would further develop the domestic economy through creation of thousands of indirect and direct jobs and drive economic development in the Itori axis.

Refinery Commission: Dangote Group debunks rumour in circulation

There has been a remour in circulation that President Muhammadu Buhari will commission the Dangote Refinery during his visit to Lagos state.

However, the Management of Dangote Industries Limited debunked the widespread romour, noting that the information was entirely misleading.

The Chief of the Group, Anthony Chiejina, made this disclosure in a statement he signed and issued to journalists.

The statement reads; “Our attention has been drawn to some misleading reports regarding the commissioning of our Dangote Refinery during the present working visit of President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR to Lagos State.

“We want to state categorically that our 650,000 barrels per day (bpd) Refinery project was never part of the President’s programme on projects to be commissioned.

“For the record, the projects slated for commissioning in Lagos State by President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR include: Lekki Deep Sea Port; 32-Metric Tonnes Lagos Rice Mill, Imota; 18.75km Eleko to Epe T Junction Express road; John Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History, Onikan, Blue Line Rail (Phase 1) commissioning (Marina to Mile 2); Groundbreaking for the Blue Line Rail Phase 2 (Mile 2 to Okokomaiko), and MRS Lubricant, a private project in Apapa.

“However, our Refinery will be commissioned before President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR formally leaves office in May, 2023, and the public will be duly informed and invited to the epic event,” the statement concluded.

FG intervenes in struggles for ownership of Dangote factory in Kogi

The Federal government intervened in the struggle for ownership of the Dangote cement factory in Obajana, Kogi State, on Monday.

The Federal Government intervened following the shutdown of the factory by the Kogi State government over the issue of ownership and allegation of tax evasion.

A reliable source in the Presidency confirmed the meeting at the Office of Chief of Staff to the President in the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

It was learned that the meeting had in attendance the President of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, Governors Yahaya Bello (Kogi) and Abdullahi Sule (Nasarawa).

It said that the management of Dangote Group has concluded a plan to drag the state government to the court over its legality.

It was alleged that the vigilante members in the state stormed the factory and many of the company’s staff were wounded in the process.
