The Kano State Police Command has arrested a suspected drug trafficker and seized large quantities of illicit drugs, including Tramadol tablets valued at over N25 million, during an intelligence-led operation in the state capital.

This was contained in a press statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, on behalf of the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Finance and Administration.

The operation was in line with the directive of DCP Abubakar Zubairu and the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Alkali Baba Usman, to intensify visibility patrols and clamp down on drug-related crimes across the state.

According to the statement, on July 31, 2022, at about 10:30 p.m., a team of officers from Badawa Division led by CSP Mohammed Yakubu intercepted an unregistered white Honda Accord along Ahmadu Bello Way.

The vehicle, driven by one Abba Musa, 30, of Rijiyar Zaki Quarters, was found to contain 500 packets of suspected Tramadol tablets concealed in the car boot.

Upon interrogation, the suspect claimed he was directed by his friend, Sulaiman Danwawu, 29, also of Rijiyar Zaki, to deliver the vehicle to someone in Yan Kaba Quarters.

Police later arrested Danwawu, who confessed that he owned the car and had transported the drugs from Onitsha, Anambra State, intending to distribute them in Kano.

In a separate operation on May 7, 2025, operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit raided the residence of one Suleiman Aminu Danwawo at Casablanca Close, Tudun Yola Quarters, following credible intelligence.

A search warrant was executed, and the following items were recovered: four cartons and four packets of pregabalin tablets, 14 Tramadol tablets, 25 bottles of codeine syrup, three units of Raphanol, an undisclosed quantity of D5 tablets, and two motor vehicles.

The police have since transferred the cases to the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department, Narcotics Section, for further investigation.

DCP Abubakar Zubairu warned that there would be no safe haven for criminals in Kano, urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to security agencies.

He also advised the public not to take the law into their own hands but to continue praying for the peace and safety of the state and the country at large.

Residents were also encouraged to download and use the “NPF Rescue Me” mobile application for emergencies.

The Kano State Police Command has arrested an 18-year-old woman, Saudat Jibril, for allegedly killing her 30-year-old husband, Salisu Idris, by slitting his throat with a sharp knife.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, May 6, at their residence in Farawa Quarters.

Upon receiving a distress call, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, immediately dispatched detectives to the scene.

The victim was rushed to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Saudat Jibril is currently detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and will be charged with culpable homicide.

CP Bakori warned that the police will not tolerate violent crimes in the state, assuring the public of a thorough investigation and swift justice.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested eight suspects, including a husband-and-wife duo, and recovered three stolen vehicles in separate operations across Abuja.

This was disclosed in a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, on April 29, 2025.

According to the statement, operatives of the Scorpion Squad arrested one Yusuf Yunusa on April 19, following a report of a stolen gold Toyota Corolla (registration number ABC 570 FJ) at the Federal Secretariat.

Further investigation led to the arrest of his wife, Blessing Yusuf, on April 25 in the Kwali Area Council.

She reportedly confessed to purchasing Toyota master keys from the Jumia online marketplace, which her husband used to steal vehicles, while she acted as a distraction during the crimes.

In a separate case on April 28, police received a report from a car buyer in Life Camp regarding a suspicious black Mercedes-Benz 4MATIC E-400 (registration number AAA 07 KA).

Investigation revealed that the car had been stolen from Lekki, Lagos.

Five suspects—Idris Suleiman, Isiyaku Habibu, Ganiyu Sadiq, Idowu Akintunde, and Bello Muyideen—were arrested.

They confessed to stealing the vehicle from their employer, and the car was recovered.

Similarly, following a report by Mr. Chinwenze Chinaza that his driver had gone missing alongside his unregistered Toyota Hilux Adventure, operatives from Mabushi Division acted on credible intelligence and tracked the suspect, identified as George Idung, to his village in Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

He was arrested while attempting to sell the vehicle, which was also recovered.

The police confirmed that all eight suspects are in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Four suspects, including a newly married groom, have been arrested by the Jigawa State Police Command following the death of a young bride in Sule Tankarkar Local Government Area.

This was disclosed in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, on Sunday.

According to the statement, the tragic incident occurred on Saturday night after the Divisional Police Officer of Sule Tankarkar Division launched an investigation into allegations of criminal conspiracy and violence.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the groom, Auwal Abdulwahab, 20, allegedly conspired with three of his friends — Nura Basiru, Muttaka Lawan, and Hamisu Musa, all aged 20 and residents of Tungo Village, Albasu District — to force the bride into non-consensual sexual activity.

Reports indicated that the bride, who had resisted marital relations since the wedding, raised an alarm during the assault and died in the process.

Following the report, police officers rushed to the scene, evacuated the body, and took it to Gumel General Hospital where a medical doctor confirmed her death.

The Daily Reality gathered that her body was subsequently handed over to her family for burial rites.

The statement noted that all four suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue.

The Commissioner of Police, CP AT Abdullahi, has ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Dutse for further investigation. Upon conclusion, the suspects will be charged to court accordingly.

The Kaduna State Government has rescued a 7-year-old boy, Abubakar Sani, after his father, Sani Tanimi Maishago, allegedly poured hot water on his legs as punishment for stealing biscuits in Lere Local Government Area.

According to reports, the father tied Abubakar’s legs before scalding him and, with the help of the boy’s stepmother, locked him in a room for over 20 days without proper food or medical care.

By the time authorities intervened, the child’s legs had become severely infected, with maggots infesting the wounds.

Hajiya Rabi Salisu, Commissioner for Human Services and Social Development, visited Abubakar at Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital, where doctors were forced to amputate both legs below the knee to save his life.

“We will ensure justice is served as a deterrent to others,” Salisu stated, confirming that the father and stepmother have been arrested and will face prosecution.

Dr. Abdulkadir Musa, the hospital’s Chief Medical Director, said Abubakar will need artificial limbs to aid his mobility, urging parents to avoid extreme punishments that cause irreversible harm.

The case highlights Kaduna State’s zero-tolerance policy toward child abuse, with officials vowing to pursue strict legal action.

A fatal accident involving two DAF trucks claimed one life and left two others injured in the early hours of Sunday, April 13, 2025.

The crash occurred around 2:00 AM in Magama Gumau Town when a sand-laden truck rammed into a stationary broken-down truck.

The impact sparked a fire that engulfed both vehicles, killing 23-year-old Usman Magaji and injuring two others.

Police and emergency responders from the Toro Divisional Headquarters swiftly arrived, extinguishing the flames and rescuing the victims.

The injured were rushed to Toro General Hospital, where Magaji was pronounced dead.

The Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolari Aliyu, psc(+), mni, urged drivers to obey traffic regulations, stressing the need for proper warning signs when vehicles break down.

He also ordered a thorough investigation by the Central Motor Traffic Department (MTD).

Authorities continue to warn motorists against reckless driving to prevent further tragedies.

A 50-year-old man, Umar Alh. Sule, has been arrested in Bauchi State, for allegedly raping his 17-year-old biological daughter.

This was made known by the Bauchi State Police Command in a statement signed by its spokesperson, Ahmed Wakil.

The incident was reported to have occurred in November 2024, when the victim’s mother was away visiting her parents in Burra village.

According to the police statement, the victim’s father took advantage of her mother’s absence to have sexual intercourse with her on multiple occasions, which resulted in a three-month pregnancy.

The victim testified the suspect’s statements and added that her father molested her many times.

The police were informed of the crime on April 3, 2025, and a team of detectives was assigned to investigate and arrest the accused.

During interrogation, Sule willingly admitted to his wrongdoing.

The case is currently under investigation, and the Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed that the case be charged to court after the investigation is completed.

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the tragic murder of an 80-year-old woman in Ihiala, Anambra State.

The suspects, identified as Chidiebere Igboanugo and Emmanuel Ibeabuchi, are both residents of Umunwaji Ogboro, Ihiala.

According to a statement from the police spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the investigation into the crime began following a complaint received on April 2, 2025.

The victim, Mrs. Theresa Igbojonu, was found tied by her legs and mouth before being killed. In addition to the heinous act, the suspects allegedly stole her black CG motorcycle, which has since been recovered by the authorities.

SP Ikenga reported that on April 5, 2025, a joint security team conducting patrols in Ihiala arrested Igboanugo after he was spotted riding the stolen motorcycle by the victim’s son at Ezego junction.

During questioning, Igboanugo revealed Ibeabuchi’s involvement, leading to his arrest on April 7, 2025.

The Commissioner of Police has instructed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka for a thorough investigation.

Authorities are also urged to intensify efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

Once the investigation is complete, the arrested individuals will be charged in court for their alleged involvement in this tragic incident.

Police have arrested the leader of a protest movement in Yobe State and several others who were demonstrating against the government’s proposed law to monitor social media platforms.

The protest was led by Abubakar Jawa, who was apprehended along with four other individuals that include Mohammed Kayeri Adam, Suleiman A. Gambo, Maimuna Abba, and Abubakar Jawa.

Dungus Abdulkarim, the state police spokesperson, denied that the arrests were related to the protest itself.

He clarified that the police were merely detaining the protesters for their protection.

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has issued a warning against planned protests scheduled for Monday, April 7, 2025, by the group known as the ‘Take It Back Movement,’ and urged the organisers to reconsider the timing of their demonstration, particularly in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and other parts of the country.

According to the Police, April 7 is set aside by the Federal Government as National Police Day to honour the dedication and sacrifices of officers across the nation.

They described the planned protest on the same date as suspicious and potentially harmful to the image of the police and the country.

In a statement released on Sunday by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Police reiterated their respect for citizens’ constitutional rights to peaceful assembly.

However, they expressed concern over the motive behind staging a protest on a day dedicated to celebrating the nation’s security personnel.

The statement noted that the National Police Day would attract dignitaries from within and outside Nigeria, including foreign Inspectors-General of Police and diplomats.

It said holding a protest on the same day could disrupt the celebration and cast a negative light on the country’s law enforcement image.

“The rationale behind staging a nationwide protest on the same day is questionable and perceived to be a deliberate attempt and unpatriotic act that is capable of rubbishing and maligning the image of the Nigeria Police and the nation as a whole,” the statement read.

The NPF, therefore, urged the organisers to shelve the planned protest, describing it as ill-timed and mischievous.

It advised those with grievances to explore dialogue and engage with appropriate government institutions to address their concerns.

It was reported that the ‘Take It Back Movement’ is an organisation founded by politician and activist, Omoyele Sowore.
