The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested four suspected vandals in connection with the destruction of a transformer at Government Girls Secondary School, Bunza, Bunza Local Government Area.

The suspects,Sanusi Muhammad and Ibrahim Lawal from Sokoto State, as well as Tasi’u Abubakar and Tasi’u Abdullahi from Zamfara State,were caught following a joint operation by the Divisional Police Officer in Bunza and local vigilante groups.

Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, said in a statement on Saturday that the incident occurred at about 3 a.m. on September 10.

The gang allegedly tied up the school’s watchman before dismantling the transformer with chainsaws and other tools.

Recovered from the scene were a black Toyota Corolla with registration number KNT-359-SN, believed to have been used for the operation, as well as the vandalised armoured cables and equipment employed in the act.

“While two suspects were arrested at the scene, further investigations by the State CID in Birnin Kebbi led to the capture of the fleeing gang members,” the police spokesman said.

He confirmed that all suspects remain in custody and will soon be charged to court.Commissioner of Police, Bello M. Sani, lauded the prompt response of the Bunza DPO and vigilantes, describing the arrest as proof of the value of police-community cooperation.

He assured residents of the state that the Command remains committed to rooting out criminals and ensuring public safety, while urging citizens to remain vigilant and share credible intelligence with security agencies.

Meanwhile, the Command also announced progress in another high-profile case.

On September 10, six suspects were arrested over the theft of gold ornaments worth over ₦109.5 million in Ka’oje, Bagudo Local Government Area.

Among those apprehended was a serving Nigerian Correctional Service officer, Ibrahim Abubakar, who confessed to taking part in the heist.

The valuables, belonging to the family of Hajiya Amina Hassan Bello, included five necklaces, nine bangles, and four rings weighing 782.7 grams.

According to investigators, the suspects conspired to sell the stolen gold and channel the proceeds into land purchases.

The police said efforts are ongoing to track down additional suspects and recover more of the stolen property.

The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old woman, Maryam Atiku, for allegedly attempting to kill her newborn baby girl by burying her alive in a bush in Dandi Local Government Area of the state.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, Bello M. Sani.

According to the statement, the incident happened on June 25, 2025, around 8:00 p.m., when Maryam, a resident of the Nasarawa area of Kamba, gave birth and allegedly tied three wrappers around the baby’s neck, covered her mouth, and buried her in a shallow grave at Malam Yaro bush.

The statement explained that on June 26, at about 12:30 p.m., a farmer, Alhaji Kabiru Muhammad, discovered a disturbed patch of soil resembling a fresh grave while working on his farm near Mallam Yaro village.

He raised an alarm, and with the help of nearby residents, the baby was exhumed alive.

The statement further noted that the baby was immediately rushed to General Hospital, Kamba, where she received medical attention and was certified to be in stable condition.

On receiving the report, detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Birnin Kebbi, swiftly arrested the suspect.

According to the statement, she confessed to the crime during preliminary investigation. The Commissioner of Police, as quoted in the statement, condemned the act and described it as barbaric.

He reiterated the command’s zero tolerance for child abuse, exploitation, and all forms of gender-based violence in the state.

The statement added that CP Bello urged parents, guardians, and community leaders to fear Allah in safeguarding children under their care and to resist compromising their future because of poverty or other factors.

It also acknowledged the support of the wife of the Kebbi State Governor, Hajia Zainab Nasare Nasir Idris, for her intervention in ensuring the rescued child’s welfare, as well as the efforts of Alhaji Kabiru Muhammad, whose quick action saved the baby’s life.

The statement concluded that upon completion of investigation, the suspect was arraigned in court for prosecution to serve as a deterrent to others.

The Delta State Police Command has arrested a group of its officers who were filmed counting large bundles of cash inside an official patrol vehicle.

A video, which went viral on social media, showed the officers handling the money while seated in a van marked “Area Command Asaba,” sparking public outrage and allegations of extortion.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, stated in a post on X that the personnel were swiftly identified, tracked, and taken into custody.

The officers were summoned to appear before the Commissioner of Police.

Edafe detailed that the four involved personnel include two senior officers, who have been issued official queries, and two inspectors, who have been detained.

All are awaiting an orderly room trial, the force’s internal disciplinary proceeding.

The police command assured that necessary sanctions will be imposed following the outcome of the trial.

The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 288 people suspected of attempting to trigger violence during the ongoing by-election for the Shanono/Bagwai State Constituency in Kano.

The disclosure was made by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, through his verified Facebook account.

He explained that the suspects were arrested with dangerous weapons and are currently under investigation.

According to him, the arrests formed part of a wider operation to forestall any breakdown of law and order throughout the election.

Armed bandits have killed at least 130 security personnel, including police officers, soldiers, and members of the Katsina Community Watch Corps, in a series of violent attacks.

Nasir Muazu, the state’s Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, confirmed the casualties in a statement on Monday.

He said over 100 officers of the state-backed Community Watch Corps and more than 30 policemen had been killed, alongside several soldiers.

Muazu condemned social media mockery of the fallen officers, stating that their sacrifices demonstrated the government’s commitment to tackling banditry.

He assured that the state was providing support to victims’ families and rescued persons.

The commissioner urged citizens to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified reports, emphasizing that security operations in remote forest areas require time and coordination.

He noted that the Katsina Community Watch Corps was established to assist in such challenging terrains.

While acknowledging improvements in security since Governor Dikko Radda took office in 2023, Muazu admitted that bandit attacks persist in some areas, including Faskari, Kankara, and Matazu.

He called for public support and prayers to sustain the fight against insecurity.

Nigerian political satirist and social media influencer, Bello Habib Galadanchi, widely known as Dan Bello, was briefly detained on Saturday afternoon upon his arrival at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, according to multiple sources.

His comedic sketches often highlight pressing issues such as the deterioration of public education, the collapse of healthcare facilities, and the increasing economic hardships faced by citizens.

While the exact reasons for his arrest remain unclear, it quickly attracted public attention given his reputation as a staunch critic of the political elite.

Fortunately, he was released shortly after being taken into custody, as confirmed by an associate.

As of now, there has been no official statement from the Nigerian Immigration Service or any other security agencies regarding the circumstances surrounding his arrest and subsequent release.

Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has been officially charged with multiple sexual offences, the Metropolitan Police Service confirmed on Thursday.

In a statement, the police said the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) had authorised the charges following a file of evidence submitted by detectives. Partey, 32, of Hertfordshire, faces five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.

The alleged offences are reported to have taken place between 2021 and 2022.

“The Met has issued a charge and requisition to Thomas Partey… in connection with the following offences: Five counts of rape, One count of sexual assault,” the statement read.

Further details about the case have not been released, and a court date is expected to be announced soon.

Partey and his representatives have yet to make a public statement regarding the charges.

The Kaduna State chapter of the Union of Retired Police Officers has announced plans for a nationwide demonstration scheduled for July 21, 2025, to protest what it describes as persistent pension-related challenges.

Dubbed the “Mother of All Peaceful Protests,” the demonstration aims to draw attention to the plight of retired police personnel enrolled in the Contributory Pension Scheme, which the group argues has caused severe financial hardship, psychological distress, and a rise in deaths among retirees.

The union’s Chairman, Mannir M. Zaria, and Vice Chairman, Danlami Maigamo, disclosed this decision after their monthly meeting held at the Police Officers’ Mess in Kaduna.

They stressed that their demand is for the Nigeria Police Force to be withdrawn from the Contributory Pension Scheme and for the establishment of an independent Police Pension Board.

They maintain that the current system is unjust and has failed to protect the welfare and dignity of retired officers.

“We have no option but to embark on another peaceful protest tagged ‘Mother of All Peaceful Protests’ on July 21, 2025,” the union stated, vowing to keep their agitation peaceful and lawful across all 36 states.

The group also recalled an earlier protest between February 24 and March 3, 2025, at the National Assembly by the Kaduna and Bauchi chapters, during which petitions were submitted to key legislative and security offices.

However, they expressed frustration over the continued silence from the authorities, especially the lack of progress on the Police Pension Board Bill discussed in a public hearing on November 19, 2024.

They reaffirmed their commitment to non-violence and distanced themselves from any group plotting violent action, insisting their demands are centered on justice, welfare, and reform.

“The silence from the authorities is deafening, but we remain committed to lawful engagement,” the union said.

The Kano State Police Command has issued a firm warning to residents against the use of traditional performances, particularly Kidan Gangi, as a cover for displaying weapons in public.

Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, cautioned that while Kidan Gangi remains a cultural heritage, some individuals have turned it into an excuse to openly exhibit dangerous weapons and intimidate members of the public.

He said the Command would no longer tolerate such behaviour, as it poses a serious threat to peace and public safety in the state.

The police boss also condemned the increasing trend where youths upload videos to TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter), showcasing weapons and engaging in acts associated with gangs.

“Such acts not only glamorise violence but also encourage criminal behaviour among impressionable young people,” CP Bakori said.

He added that anyone caught brandishing weapons in public, inciting violence, or hiding arms at home would be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.

“Parents and guardians must monitor their children’s activities closely and report any suspicious behaviour to the authorities,” he warned.

The police also cautioned local blacksmiths against fabricating weapons for cultural displays or gang use.

CP Bakori noted that anyone aiding or abetting such acts would be investigated and brought to justice.

This development comes after the police conducted a three-day raid between June 13 and 15, during which 51 suspects were arrested.

Officers also recovered dangerous weapons and illegal drugs from various locations across the state.

The Command vowed to be committed to maintaining law and order.

The Kano State Police Command has arrested 41 suspects, including key perpetrators, in connection with the gruesome killing of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Rano Division, CSP Baba Ali.

This was revealed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.

The Command condemned the killing, describing it as a senseless and shocking act that represents a direct attack on law enforcement and the safety of society.

It noted that the tragic loss has been met with widespread condemnation across the state.Following swift investigations, the police apprehended 41 suspects, including those identified as the principal actors.

The Command pledged to intensify efforts to ensure that all those responsible are brought to justice without exception.

CP Bakori assured residents of Kano that the police remain fully committed to safeguarding lives and property.

He urged the public to remain calm and continue supporting the police with useful information to aid the investigation.

The Command also paid tribute to CSP Baba Ali for his courage and sacrifice, reaffirming its dedication to honoring the fallen officer’s memory by ensuring justice is served.
