The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has exhumed the bodies of marine hunters who were kidnapped and brutally murdered by notorious criminals in Unyenghe, Mbo Local Government Area. 

According to the police, the victims were abducted on August 18 and buried in shallow graves with their heads dismembered.

Following a tip-off, the police launched a manhunt for the suspects, arresting five individuals, including the Village Head of Utit Antai, Chief Okon Asuquo Eteokpo, who was accused of aiding and abetting the criminals. 

The police also recovered 15 live cartridges from the suspects.

ASP Timfon John, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident, stating that the police are determined to rid the state of crime and criminal elements. 

The police are urging the public to report any suspicious activities or individuals to the nearest police station, as they continue to investigate the gruesome murders.

Police in Jigawa State have detained a tea vendor accused of beating a 20-year-old man to death in Dutse after the young man allegedly stole bread, milk, noodles, and petrol from him.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Jigawa, DSP Lawan Shiisu, confirmed the detention, stating that the suspect will be arraigned in court following the completion of investigations.

According to the police statement, the suspect, a 40-year-old resident of Sararai Village in Dutse, tied up and tortured the victim on August 19 after accusing him of theft.

Upon receiving a report of the incident, a police patrol team arrested the suspect and took the victim to Rasheed Shekoni Teaching Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead by a medical doctor.

The victim’s body has since been handed over to his family for burial.

During questioning at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse, the suspect admitted to beating the teenager, claiming he was provoked by the theft and had previously reported the matter to the deceased’s parents.

A woman in Jigawa State has died by self-immolation after reportedly being devastated by her recent divorce.

The 40-year-old, whose identity has been withheld, set herself on fire in Garin Mallam village, located in the Guri Local Government Area.

The incident was confirmed by DSP Lawan Shiisu, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the state, in a statement released on Friday in Dutse.

According to Shiisu, the woman poured petrol on herself and set herself ablaze on the outskirts of the village.

“On Thursday at about 7:40 a.m., the command received heartbreaking news from Guri that a woman had set herself on fire after pouring petrol on her body. The incident occurred in Garin Mallam village, and she was burnt beyond recognition,” Shiisu stated.

Following the report, officers from the Guri Divisional Police Headquarters were dispatched to the scene to verify the incident. The woman’s charred remains were subsequently taken to a hospital and later released to her family for burial.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the woman had been struggling with depression for several months after her divorce.

The state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ahmadu Abdullahi, expressed his condolences and urged the public to seek guidance and counseling from elders when facing difficult situations.

He also encouraged people to entrust their affairs to a higher power for solace.

The Niger State Police Command has reported the discovery of a deceased infant, estimated to be a day old, on a farmland in Tayi village, Minna.

According to SP Waisu Abiodun, the Police Public Relations Officer, the GRA Police Division received a report on August 9 about the lifeless baby found in the village.

Police personnel, accompanied by welfare officials from Chanchaga Local Government Area, responded to the scene.

The Daily Reality gathered that a medical examination confirmed that the baby was already deceased.

According to the police, an investigation is underway with community assistance to identify and apprehend those responsible.

A local resident, who preferred anonymity, suggested that the baby might have been abandoned by an unmarried woman.

The resident noted that the baby likely perished due to exposure, marking an unusual occurrence for the area.

A commercial motor vehicle driver has returned a lost bag containing a substantial amount of money to the Kano State Police Command. 

The driver, Safiyanu Mohammed, ‘m’, 36 Years old resides at Rangaza Quarters, Ungogo LGA, Kano State, a driver indigene of Katsina State, found the bag on Friday, 9th August 2024, at Hadejia Road by Dakata Junction, and handed it over to the Police Command.

The bag was found to contain a large sum of money, but no unique identification or contact information of the owner. 

The Kano State Police Command is now calling on the rightful owner of the bag to come forward and claim their property.

To facilitate the return of the bag, the owner is required to provide proof of ownership and identification. 

The Commissioner of Police, CP Salman Dogo Garba, commended the commercial driver for his exemplary honesty and urge anyone with information about the owner’s identity to come forward.

The Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police Force, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a bid to enhance inter-agency collaboration, paid a courtesy visit to the National Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Customs Service, Chief Superintendent of Customs (CSC), Abdullahi Maiwada.

The visit was said to have been paid at the Nigeria Customs Service headquarters in Abuja on July 9, 2024. 

ACP Adejobi noted the importance of collaboration between the two security agencies, stating, “Our roles as security agencies are crucial to national security and economic stability. By working together, we can better discharge our responsibilities and serve the public more effectively.” 

CSC Maiwada expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, saying, “This visit is a significant step towards strengthening our relationship with the Nigeria Police Force. Our combined efforts will undoubtedly enhance our operational efficiency and public service delivery.” 

The meeting focused on identifying areas of mutual interest where both agencies can cooperate to improve their functions and foster a positive image for both institutions.

The visit concluded with a mutual pledge to work towards enhancing national security and economic prosperity.

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 36-year-old driver for allegedly attempting to steal his boss’ car after dropping her off at Tejuosho Market, Yaba.

The driver was trailed to Shubiri Road, Ojo, where he was arrested and the car, a Lexus ES 350 with registration number EXY 950 FZ, was recovered.

The police spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest and stated that the suspect will be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation.

The complainant, whose identity was not disclosed, reported the theft of the car and her laptop to the police at about 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

The suspect will face charges for the attempted theft, and the police are continuing their investigation into the incident.

The newly appointed Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Salman Dogo Garba, has convened a strategic meeting with Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), Tactical and Operational Commanders.

This meeting is part of a broader effort to strengthen security and safeguard the lives and properties of all residents in the state. 

The Commissioner of Police appreciates the officers for their commitment and dedication to crime fighting and maintaining peace despite the daunting security situation in the state.

He further charged them to remain resolute and redouble efforts towards surmounting the scourge of thuggery and other violent criminal activities that had hitherto bedevilled the good people of the state. 

He charged the officers to continue with the community policing engagements with their stakeholders and to ensure no thuggery (Daba) incidents are recorded in their areas of responsibilities.

They are also warned to always be available to supervise their men, as the CP will be going around on supervision. 

Dogo reminded the officers that accountability and professionalism will be his driving forces.

In addition, he urges all the supervising officers to ensure the cleanliness of their offices, including detention facilities. 

The CP reiterated that “I can not be sitting in my office to allow thugs (Yan Daba) and other perpetrators of criminal activities to disrupt the peace being enjoyed in the State.”

The Nigerian Police Force has busted a multibillion-naira jewellery syndicate that colluded with armed robbers in Abuja and its environs.

According to Force spokesman Muyiwa Adejobi, the syndicate was dismantled after an armed robbery incident occurred at a police officer’s residence in the Lugbe area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on April 28th.

The stolen items, including jewellery, money, academic certificates, documents, phones, and other valuable properties, were traced to Wuse Market, where they were purchased by one Alhaji Auwal.

Despite police warnings, Alhaji Auwal facilitated the purchase and instructed his associates on how to handle the stolen goods.

Further investigations revealed that Alhaji Auwal, his sons, and other associates are part of a cartel involved in dealing in stolen jewellery.

The group has been linked to previous similar cases under police investigation.

Twenty-six suspects have been arrested in connection with the case and are being detained legally under a court order.

They will be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigations.

This operation demonstrates the police’s commitment to tackling armed robbery and related crimes in the FCT.

The force urges the public to provide information to help in the fight against crime.

The Kano State Police Command has arrested suspected fraudsters who specialize in generating false bank alerts.

The command recovered 22 POS machines, 52 ATM cards, eight jerricans of diesel, and six mobile phones.

According to the command’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, “The suspects had purchased diesel worth N300,000 at Chula Filling Station using fraudulent payment methods, resulting in the owners receiving fake money transfer alerts.”

Kiyawa stated that the suspects confessed to their crimes and admitted to defrauding fuel attendants at various filling stations and businesses in Kano State.

The police commissioner, Mohammed Usaini Gumel, had directed detectives to be on alert to ensure the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators.

The suspects, Abdulkadir Ibrahim, 38, Aliyu Tukur, 27, and Auwal Ibrahim, 20, were arrested following a distress call from the manager of Chula Filling Station.
