President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the extension of Mrs. Kemi Nanna Nandap’s tenure as Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) until December 31, 2026.

Nandap, who began her career in the NIS on October 9, 1989, was appointed as Comptroller-General on March 1, 2024, with an initial tenure set to expire on August 31, 2025. Under her leadership, the NIS has seen significant progress in border management, immigration modernization, and national security.

In a statement on Monday, presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga said President Tinubu commended Nandap’s leadership and urged her to remain committed to the Service’s strategic priorities under the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The President also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the NIS in safeguarding Nigeria’s borders and promoting legal and orderly migration.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has confirmed that former Comptroller General of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), David Shikfu Parradang, passed away in a hotel in Abuja.

Josephine Adeh, the Command’s spokesperson, stated that Paradang died after receiving a female guest in his hotel room.

She dismissed circulating reports suggesting that the former NIS boss was kidnapped and killed.

According to Adeh, “On March 3, 2025, at approximately 12:00 PM, Mr. Parradang arrived at Joy House Hotel, Area 3 Junction, driving a black Mercedes Benz.”

“He checked into the hotel, paying a sum of Twenty two thousand naira (N22,000) for one night’s stay. Shortly thereafter, he directed the hotel room attendant to escort a female guest who had come to visit to his room.”

“This lady left the hotel premises around 04:00 PM of the same day.” She added that Paradang did not leave his room after the guest’s departure.

Around 4:00 AM on March 4, a military officer who was his friend visited the hotel out of concern for his welfare. The officer, alongside the hotel receptionist, found Paradang lifeless in a chair.

Adeh explained that the Durumi Police Station was informed, and officers quickly arrived at the scene, secured the area, and gathered evidence.

“The body has been transferred to the National Hospital for necessary procedures, and hotel staff are currently cooperating with Police investigations,” she said.

The police have urged the public to disregard false information regarding the circumstances of his death.

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has provided reasons for the recent increase in international passport fees, citing the need to enhance the quality of the passports, ensure faster processing, and improve accessibility.

During a sensitization event in Yola, Adamawa State, on Monday, NIS Comptroller Mr. Ibrahim Mohammed explained that starting from September 1, applicants within Nigeria will be required to pay ₦50,000 for a 32-page passport booklet with a five-year validity period.

This marks an increase from the previous fee of ₦35,000. The fee for a 64-page passport booklet, valid for ten years, will rise to ₦100,000, up from ₦70,000.Mr.

Mohammed clarified that the fee hike will not affect applicants living abroad. He emphasized that the new passports feature enhanced durability and quality, meeting international standards.

The inclusion of fingerprints in the new design makes it more secure and difficult to counterfeit compared to the previous version.He urged prospective applicants to apply online or visit NIS offices directly, cautioning against the use of intermediaries to avoid scams.

He also called on religious leaders to educate their followers on the changes and noted that those who apply before the September 1 deadline would still be charged the old rates.

The NIS is extending its awareness campaign to local government areas, beginning with Mubi, and has also taken the sensitization efforts to motor parks and major streets in the state capital.

Representatives from the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Muslim Council in Adamawa, Mr. Joel Manzo and Alhaji Aliyu Iya, respectively, expressed their gratitude to the NIS for the enlightenment and pledged to relay the information to their communities.

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, announced that the police have apprehended individuals responsible for sponsoring rioters who displayed foreign flags and called for a change in government.

The Daily Reality learned that an investigation is underway to determine their motivations.

The Comptroller General of the Nigerian Immigration Service, Kemi Nandap, revealed that some sponsors are based in the diaspora and have been identified and watchlisted.

He said that any attempts by them to enter the country will be met with arrest.

IGP Egbetokun also stated that funders of violence and subversion, both within and outside Nigeria, have been tracked, and their accounts have been blocked.

The security agencies assured that they have been managing the crisis carefully, using only tear gas and not live ammunition or rubber bullets.

He added that the reported shooting of a protester in Abuja is being investigated and may have been the work of armed robbers or hoodlums.

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, emphasized the commitment of security agencies to their task and the respect they have for the country.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, assured that the Nigerian Army will protect Nigeria’s democracy, peace, and harmony.

The DSS spokesman, Dr. Peter Afunanya, confirmed that some sponsors of the foreign flags have been arrested and urged patience as their identities will soon be disclosed.

The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has placed sponsors of the nationwide #EndBadGovernance protest on its watchlist. 

The Comptroller-General of NIS, Kemi Nandap, who disclosed this at Defence Headquarters, Abuja, on Tuesday, said these persons abroad would be arrested immediately they step their legs in Nigeria. 

She spoke after a strategic meeting organised by the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa. 

The Defence Chief and other heads of intelligence agencies as well as heads of paramilitary agencies were in a closed-door with a view to implementing the crackdown order given by the President, Bola Tinubu. 

While speaking to journalists, a Nandap said, “We have diaspora sponsors, they are on our watchlist.

Any attempt they make to come into the country, we’ll be notified and they will be apprehend and handed to appropriate authority.” 

The immigration boss said the service has, in response to the protest, deployed more officers to borders, both land and airports, to ensure effective manning of those entry and exit points. 

She added that the service has also stepped up surveillance to prevent foreign intervention in the country. 

On the other hand, the Director-General Department of State Services (DSS), Yusuf Bichi, said the agency had uncovered some sponsors but declined to give further information. 

The secret police boss, represented at the meeting by the DSS’ spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, said some bank accounts have already been blocked. 

Afunanya said some of the persons operating such accounts are staying abroad, adding that they are being monitored.

It is now almost eight months since Sheikh Zakzaky and his wife, Zeenah Ibraheem, were discharged and acquitted by a Kaduna High Court of all the criminal charges levelled against them after spending almost six years in illegal detention. 

One would have thought that it would be a matter of days or a couple of months at most for the duo to jet out of the country to attend to their health that deteriorated during their stay in detention. 

When passing its judgment, the Kaduna High Court made it categorically clear that the couple were not only innocent and thus discharged and acquitted, but are also entitled to freedom like every other citizen as enshrined in the constitution of the country, including among others, the right to attend to their health in any place of their choice. 

But the Nigerian government, in a show of contempt to a court of competent jurisdiction, continued its systemic persecution of the ailing couple by withholding their travel documents to frustrate their quest for proper medical attention. 

The NIA, NIS, and DSS initially denied withholding the couple’s travel documents but later admitted they were lost. The office of the AGF went as far as claiming that the couple were not suffering from any life-threatening condition that warrants overseas treatment. When and how did the AGF become a diagnostician capable of tracing what ailments should be attended to in the country? 

It is worth noting that Sheikh Zakzaky and his wife are still suffering from various life-threatening health problems, as evidenced by a series of investigations results undertaken after their release from detention- at both public and private health facilities. 

The Sheikh’s lead and cadmium poisoning is the greatest concern, which is yet to be addressed, notwithstanding the dangerous serum level. The story is no different for his wife, Zeenah, who has been a wheelchair user for almost six years now. 

The couple has suffered enough. As a moral obligation, people of conscience, clergies and statesmen are pleased urged to demand that government allows the Sheikh and his wife to attend to their health. As the saying goes, injustice to one is an injustice to all.
