In a recent reshuffle within the Kano Emirate, key members of the royal family have been elevated to higher positions, signaling a renewed focus on leadership and tradition.

Alhaji Mannir Sanusi Bayero has been promoted from Wamban Kano to the prestigious title of Galadiman Kano, marking a significant step in his royal duties.

Meanwhile, Alhaji Kabiru Tijjani Hashim, formerly Turakin Kano, has been elevated to Wamban Kano, reinforcing his role in the emirate’s governance.

Alhaji Mahmud Ado Bayero, previously Tafidan Kano, has now been promoted to Turakin Kano, highlighting his increasing influence.

In fresh appointments, Adam Lamido Sanusi (Ashraf) takes on the title of Tafidan Kano, while Alhaji Ahmed Abbas Sanusi has been named the new Yariman Kano.

The changes aim to strengthen the emirate’s leadership, ensuring continuity and progress in Kano’s traditional governance.

The Nigeria Police Force has retracted its invitation to Alhaji Sanusi regarding the recent unrest during the Sallah celebration in Kano State on March 30, 2025. The invitation was initially extended to gather Alhaji Sanusi’s account of the events that led to the disruption of peace during the festivities.

Following consultations with key stakeholders, Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, emphasized the importance of keeping policing actions free from political bias and misinterpretation. Instead of requiring Alhaji Sanusi’s attendance at the police station, the IGP has directed the operatives of the Force Intelligence Department (FID) to go to Kano and obtain his statement directly.

Prior to the Sallah celebrations, police received credible intelligence suggesting that two rival emirs, Alh Ado Bayero and Alh Lamido Sanusi, intended to hold separate Durbar Festivals, a tradition that involves emirs parading on horseback. To prevent potential violence, IGP Egbetokun deployed Deputy Inspector-General of Police, DIG Abubakar Sadiq, to negotiate with both parties and the Kano State Government, resulting in an agreement to cancel the festivities.

Despite this understanding, Alhaji Sanusi proceeded to ride a horse in a procession post-Eid prayers, which led to escalating tensions with local youths and ultimately resulted in the death of one Usman Sagiru, along with several injuries.

The Nigeria Police Force has assured the public of its commitment to professionalism in investigating the incident, stating that those responsible will face justice. The police further clarified that their actions are driven by principles of neutrality and professionalism.

ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, reiterated the police’s dedication to conducting thorough investigations into the matter.

Bayero University, Kano (BUK), has refuted reports on some online platforms alleging irregularities in its admission process, describing them as false and misleading.

The clarification was made in a statement issued on Sunday by the Deputy Registrar and Head of Public Affairs Directorate, Lamara Garba, who said the allegations relate to the 2021/2022 Direct Entry admissions conducted over two years ago.

According to the statement, BUK’s thorough screening process at the time uncovered several applications backed by fake results. 

The university stressed that it rejected all such applications in line with its zero-tolerance policy on academic fraud.

“This was not a scandal but rather a testament to our due diligence, which earned us commendation from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB),” the statement read.

It added that in 2023, BUK was honoured with an Award of Excellence and Due Diligence by JAMB, becoming the first university in Nigeria to receive such a distinction.

BUK therefore urged the public to disregard the circulating misinformation, affirming its continued commitment to fairness, transparency, and high standards in its academic processes.

Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has officially launched an on-campus tricycle service at its New Campus. 

The initiative, inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, aims to provide a safer and more convenient mode of transportation for students and staff navigating the university’s expansive grounds.

During the launch event, which was attended by key university officials, including the Registrar Haruna Aliyu, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics) Professor Haruna Musa, University Librarian Dr. Kabiru Dahiru Abbas, Head of Public Affairs Lamara Garba, and Professor Yakubu Magaji Azare, Professor Abbas highlighted the university’s commitment to prioritizing student welfare.

“This initiative is part of our broader effort to enhance security and convenience for our students,” Professor Abbas stated.

“We are committed to making our campuses not only academically stimulating but also comfortable and safe for everyone.” He added

He assured the university community that the tricycle service would be operated under strict monitoring and evaluation, with trained drivers adhering to best practices from 7 AM to 9 PM daily.

The introduction of the tricycle service follows a February 2025 ban on motorcycles on campus due to rising security concerns. 

The new tricycles are expected to offer a structured and secure alternative for students, facilitating seamless movement across the campus while upholding BUK’s reputation for safety and order.

The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, visited the Bunkure Local Government Area of Kano State on Wednesday to offer his condolences and financial support to the families of the 16 travelers who were lynched in Uromi, Esan North East LGA of Edo State.

The DSP met with the grieving families, hailing from Bunkure, Kibiya, Rano, and Garko LGAs, at the At-Taqwa Mosque in Sabon Fegi, Bunkure LGA.

Together with the Senate Deputy President were the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, the Managing Director of the North West Development Commission, Professor Abdullahi Shehu Ma’aji, and other dignitaries.

This was disclosed in a statement released by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Deputy President of the Senate, Ismail Mudashir, and made available to journalists.

Barau assured the families of the victims that justice would be served and reiterated that the perpetrators would face the full wrath of the law.

He further stated that, in addition to the previously apprehended 14 suspects, two more individuals had been arrested in connection with the killings.

To ease the families’ hardships, Senator Barau announced a donation of N1 million to each of the 16 bereaved families, totaling N16 million.

The statement in part reads, “I am here to express my deepest sympathies for the tragic incident that claimed the lives of 16 of our brothers last Thursday. May Allah grant them Jannatul Firdaus and provide swift recovery to those injured,” Senator Barau stated.

“The incident deeply troubled me. I immediately contacted the state governor, security agencies, and all relevant stakeholders. They acted promptly, leading to the arrest of 14 suspects initially and, subsequently, two more. The state governor, who visited me in Abuja, has assured me of the state government’s support,” he added.

Earlier, the Chief Imam of the area, Sheik Zainul Abidina Auwal, while speaking on behalf of the families, expressed gratitude to Senator Barau for his efforts in pursuing justice and lauded him as a leader vital for the nation’s progress

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has visited the Kano State Government and the families of 16 hunters burned to death by criminals in Uromi, Edo State, to offer condolences.  

Speaking at the Government House, Okpebholo expressed shock over the incident and confirmed that 14 suspects had been arrested.  

The Daily Reality reports that the governor assured justice for the victims’ families.  

Similarly, Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, urged Okpebholo to ensure the culprits are punished.  

Yusuf also called on the federal government to disclose the identities of those arrested and urged the Edo government to compensate the families of the deceased.

The Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has ordered the immediate suspension of all illegal vigilante groups operating in the state following the brutal killing of travelers in Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area.

In a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, the government disclosed that the tragic incident occurred on March 27, 2025. As part of the swift response, the state has also suspended the Commander of the Edo State Security Corps, CP Friday Ibadin (Rtd.).

Preliminary investigations revealed that the vigilante group responsible for the killings was operating illegally, as it had neither been profiled nor registered under the Edo State Security Corps. The government emphasized that their actions do not reflect the values or objectives of the state’s security framework.

Authorities have so far arrested fourteen suspects in connection with the attack, while a special police team, set up by the Inspector General of Police, is conducting a manhunt for others involved.

Governor Okpebholo reiterated his administration’s commitment to upholding the constitutional rights of all citizens to move freely and engage in lawful business across the state. The Edo State Government is in contact with the families of the victims, community leaders, and the Kano State Government, as most of the deceased reportedly hailed from there.

“We urge all parties to remain calm as we ensure justice is served in a transparent and proactive manner,” the statement added.

This tragic event has sent shockwaves across the country, with calls for stricter regulation of local security groups. Meanwhile, security operatives continue investigations into the incident to bring all perpetrators to justice.

The Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has extended warm Eid-el-Fitr greetings to Muslims in Kano and beyond, urging them to uphold the virtues of patience, compassion, and unity cultivated during Ramadan.  

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Sunday, the governor emphasized the need to sustain the spirit of sacrifice and selflessness, encouraging citizens to support the less privileged and promote harmony in their communities.  

Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving living conditions by ensuring economic growth, social welfare, and infrastructural development. 

He also stressed the importance of peaceful coexistence among different ethnic and religious groups, describing unity as Kano’s greatest strength.  

Addressing the recent killing of Kano indigenes in Edo State, the governor expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and vowed that his government would not rest until the perpetrators were identified and brought to justice.  

He urged citizens to use the festive period to strengthen family bonds, promote reconciliation, and foster peace. 

He also called on them to emulate the exemplary character of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) by upholding justice, honesty, and compassion in all dealings.

Abdullahi Tanka Galadanci, a prominent politician and Senior Special Assistant on Radio to the Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, passed away.

Galadanci died on March 26, 2025, after a brief illness at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital.

Governor Yusuf expressed deep sorrow over the loss, highlighting Mr. Galadanci’s dedication and significant contributions to the state’s media landscape. 

“Our heartfelt condolences go to his family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time,” the Governor stated. He further requested Allah’s mercy on Galadanci.

Burial rites took place today at 5:30 PM at Filin Galadanchi Mosque, near Galadiman Kano’s residence.

Kano State Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has accepted the resignation of Maj. Gen. Muhammad Inuwa Idris (Rtd) as Commissioner for the newly formed Ministry of Internal Security and Special Services.  

In a statement by spokesperson Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor expressed his gratitude for General Idris’s contributions in laying the groundwork for the ministry’s operations.  

“Major General Muhammad Inuwa Idris (Rtd) has shown unwavering commitment to Kano State, and we wish him a peaceful and fulfilling retirement,” Governor Yusuf stated.  

Idris’s brief tenure is recognized for establishing a solid foundation that will enable his successor to advance the ministry’s crucial work in internal security.
