The Kano State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation is forging a strategic partnership with the AMG Foundation, a move aimed at addressing the rising humanitarian challenges in Kano State.

This collaboration was formalized during a follow-up meeting held in Abuja between the Honourable Commissioner of Humanitarian Affairs, Hajiya Amina Abdullahi Sani, and the senior management team of the AMG Foundation, led by its chairman, Dr. Aminu Garba Magashi.

According to a statement released by the Ministry’s Director of Public Enlightenment, Halima Sani Gadanya, on Tuesday, the AMG Foundation has committed to supporting the Ministry’s early initiatives.

This support includes organizing a one-day stakeholders’ forum on the proposed Kano State Humanitarian Agenda, facilitating a two-day working visit to Abuja to build partnerships with federal agencies and the United Nations, and developing both a 2025 Annual Operational Plan and a Five-Year Strategic Plan for the Ministry.

The Daily Reality learned that one of the most significant outcomes of the meeting is the establishment of the Kano State Humanitarian Investment Trust Fund and the formation of the Kano State Inter-Ministerial Coordination Committee on Humanitarian Response.

These efforts are designed to streamline humanitarian services and enhance the Ministry’s capacity to provide timely assistance to vulnerable populations across the state.

In her remarks, Hajiya Amina Abdullahi Sani expressed her gratitude to AMG Foundation for its unwavering support, stating, “The partnership with AMG Foundation is crucial in addressing the current humanitarian challenges in Nigeria, particularly in Kano State.

“We are committed to providing effective humanitarian services to the most vulnerable populations.”

Dr. Magashi, on his part, stressed the need for inter-ministerial collaboration and the establishment of a Humanitarian Relief Fund to facilitate emergency response efforts.

“Timely interventions can significantly mitigate the effects of disasters and conflicts. We must work together to ensure effective response mechanisms,” he said.

In a related development, Hajiya Amina Abdullahi Sani paid a familiarization visit to Mr. Abel O. Eniten, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

Mr. Eniten commended the Kano State government, led by Governor Abba K Yusuf, for its humanitarian efforts, assuring full support from the Federal Ministry to further strengthen the state’s initiatives.

The Kano State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation is set to work closely with the Federal Ministry to enhance its mandate and vision, ensuring effective and sustainable humanitarian interventions for the people of Kano.

The Kano State Cancer Center has disclosed plan to establish Cancer Care Trust Fund to help the vulnerable indegene patients in the state with the cost of their health treatments.

The co-odinator of the Center, Dr. Aminu Magashi, stated this on Monday in a Facebook post sighted by The Daily Reality.

Magashi said the effort was in collaboration with some international development partners, NGOs and business community among others.

He added that it was also part of their plans to set up a Cancer Registry/Directory in collaboration with the Kano State Bureau of Statistics.

He further stated that also distinguished health committee members tasked them to establish the governing board and open the centre soon as well as be updating.

In the post, Magashi said, “In my humble capacity as the Coordinator of the Kano State Cancer Care Center, today, Tuesday 3rd October, I received in my office a powerful delegation of the Kano State House of Assembly Health Committee led by Hon. Zakariyya Alhassan Ishaq, Chairman Health Committee, Hon. Usman Abubakar Tasiu, Deputy Chair and other esteemed members of the committee and Clarks.

“It was a familiarisation visit. With me is our Legal Adviser/Secretary, Barrister Maryam Jibrin, from the Ministry of Justice.

“We updated them on our plans to commence work at the Cancer Centre with our ‘PPP’ partner H360 as well as our intention to establish the Cancer Care Trust Fund in collaboration with our international development partners, NGOs and business community to cater for indigent patients/vulnerable people’s cost of treatment, set up of Cancer Registry/Directory in collaboration with Kano State Bureau of Statistics.

“Distinguished health committee members tasked us to establish the governing board and open the centre soon as well as be updating,” he added.

Kano State Deputy Governor and All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate, Dr Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna said no serious government will succeed without the contributions of Civil Society Organizations (CSO’s) and Non-Governmental organizations (NGO’s).

Gawuna made this statement on Monday, 14th November, 2022 during a continuation of interactive session series organised by a coalition of 21 Kano CSO’s and NGO’s aiming to promote peace and development of Kano State.

Gawuna said, “We are not enemies of NGO’s. That’s why we are here. We’ll work together with NGO’s and CSO’S especially on the issues concerning education, youth and women.

“In many places, government alone cannot do all it’s work. They need the intervention of NGO’s. I have seen one person in Kenya teaching the whole school. We too here are going to involve NGO’s in improvising classrooms to cater the needs of our school pupils,” he stressed.

“I urge you journalists, NGO’s and CSO’s to to enlighten people about the activities of government and its programmes,” Gawuna appealed.

Other issues the APC candidate discussed were his development agenda on employment, health, education, agriculture, infrastructure, climate change, etc.

Convened by Dr Aminu Magashi Garba, the sessions allowed the gubernatorial candidates to interact with members of NGO’s, CSO’s, media practitioners and community leaders and share their blueprints on critical areas such health, education, youths, women, environment, commerce, agriculture, technology among others.

The event that commences on 9th November was graced by gubernatorial candidates of People’s Redemption Party (PRP), Salihu Tanko Yakasai; Bala Muhammad Gwagwarwa of Social Democratic Party (SDP), Mal. Ibrahim Khalil of African Democratic Congress (ADC); Engr. Bashir I. Bashir of Labour Party (LP) and Sha’aban Ibrahim Sharada of Action Democratic Party (ADP). Participants were hoping to see Abba Kabir Yusuf of New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and Sadiq Wali of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the subsequent meetings.

21 Kano-based Non-Governmental Organisations have organised interactive sessions with the aspirants for Kano state gubernatorial position ahead of the forthcoming 2023 elections. The two-day event took place on the 9th and 10th of November 2022 at the Babale Suite conference hall in Kano.

Convened by Dr Aminu Magashi Garba, the interactive sessions allowed the candidates to share their campaign blueprint with the NGO community and have a dialogue with them on critical thematic areas such as; Health, Education, Environment, Commerce and Industry, Agriculture, Technology, Women and Youth Development, among others.

Sessions with PRP candidate Salihu Tanko Yakasai and Bala Muhammad Gwagwarwa of SDP were held on the first day.

The second day saw sessions with ADC’s Mal. Ibrahim Khalil, LP’s Engr. Bashir I. Bashir, and ADP’s Sha’aban Sharada.

It was said that plans are on the ground to organise sessions with other major contenders, such as the NNPP, APC and PDP candidates, in the coming days.

Recall that the Kano Civil Society Organizations and Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) held similar sessions with the candidates a few weeks ago.

Dr Aminu Magashi Garba Foundation (AMG) has donated the sum of one million naira to a Youth Academy Initiative (YOSPIS) Tuesday, August 2nd, 2022.

Zainab Nasir Ahmad, the YOSPIS Executive Director, disclosed this during the first anniversary of the Youth Academy Initiative.

Speaking at the event, Ahmad unveiled some of the achievements they recorded so far to include a popular live radio program, Hasken Matasa, which targeted more than two million audience.

However, she added that it was part the achievements they so far recorded the collaborative empowerment of 150 women, celebrating World NGO Day in partnership with Kano State Special Adviser on Non-Governmental Organisations.

Other achievements include; Sensitizing 14 Communities in Kano on Menstrual Hygiene and donating sanitary pads to seven hundred adolescents girls in commemoration of World Menstrual Hygiene Day, initiating a monthly seminar series to the civil society organisations, supporting persons living with disability with sanitary pads at Tudun-Maliki Special Education School among others.

It is no longer bizarre that successes and challenges go hand in hand. Zainab also went on to mention some of the challenges she faced since her resuming duty as the Executive Director.

She decried inadequate source of funding, lack of permanent office space and official vehicle as part of the challenges faced by her organisation in the last year.

She added that YOSPIS is seriously engaged in writing and submitting proposals to potential donors, mobilise resources from members and other stakeholders.

Dr Aminu Magashi has also called on the stakeholders to engage and contribute more for youth development for the better Nigeria.
