The Secretariat of the Students Representatives Council (SRC) of the Institute of Administration, Kongo, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, was gutted by fire on Friday, February 18.

The secretariat, which served as an office and accommodation for SRC executives, was gutted by fire that reportedly started from a neighbouring shop at about 5:50 pm.

After speaking with the Director of Welfare of the ABU SRC, Comrade Usman Tukur Babangida, the Daily Reality gathered that the fire razed about two rooms down and personal properties of the students’ executives occupying those rooms were destroyed entirely. He also said other rooms of the SRC executives were partially affected.

Mr Tukur noted that if not for the timely intervention of the institution’s fire service, the fire would have razed down the entire secretariat and nearby buildings. 

The Daily Reality also gathered from sources who witnessed the accident that no loss of life or injury was recorded.

Niger Republic has sought greater cooperation through the strengthening of students’ exchange programmes and other related issues on collaborations with tertiary institutions between the country and Kano State.

The Niger Republic Minister of Vocational training, Kassoum Mamane Moctar and his counterpart of Education and Scientific research, Dr Mamadou Djibo from the same neighbouring West African country, made the proposal.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Hassan Musa Fagge, in a statement signed Thursday, disclosed.

The minister said many years back, students from Niger Republic came to Nigeria, particularly Kano, to study in various tertiary institutions.

He said, “now we want that students exchange programme to be revived and sustained”.

“Through the partnership, we will promote quality of education and research in both our tertiary institutions, which will be of benefit to all of us,” he stated.

Responding on behalf of the Governor, his Deputy Dr Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna said Kano State is ready to collaborate with Niger Republic in areas of interest and benefit.

Gawuna thanked the delegation from Niger Republic for the visit and assured them of cooperation.

On Wednesday, shooters suspected of being kidnappers abducted 22 people and injured four others in Idon, Kajuru Local Government Area, Kaduna State.

Mr. Aboki Danjuma, a resident of the Idon community, said the criminals arrived around 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday and started shooting sporadically.

Justina Joseph, Mary Joseph, Rejoice Joseph, Stephen Joseph, Samson Ladan, Christiana David, Boniface David, Helen Aminu, Mirabel Aminu, Precious Philemon, Nelson Philemon, and Christian Philemon were among those taken away by the bandits, according to a councillor in the Kajuru Local Government Area of the State, Bala Jonathan.

Yosi Gabriel, Stephen Clement, Jinkai Musa, Derrick Obadiah, Daniel David, Paul David, Istifanus Peter, Miracle Matthew, Jesse Charles, and Favour Daniel are among the other names on the list.

According to him, David Maigaya, Micah Musa, Josephine Matthew, and Marshall Musa were the four injured people.

Since the time of posting this story, ASP Mohammed Jalige, the Kaduna Police Public Relations Officer, has yet to confirm the killings.

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State has commended the Road Transport Employers Association Of Nigeria (RTEAN) for creating many job opportunities for the youth.

 Ganduje lauded the contribution of the association to the growth of the economy through the creation of job opportunities for the youth in the transportation sector.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Hassan Musa Fagge, disclosed this in a statement signed Tuesday. 

The Governor, represented by his Deputy Dr Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, made the statement when he launched the RTEAN at Kwanar Dawaki Motor Park new office on Tuesday. 

Ganduje said, “we are really proud of you (RTEAN) having recognised your contribution to the improvement of the transport sector through engaging our youth to have jobs he said.”

He added that RTEAN was complementing the state government’s effort to ensure that the youth have jobs by employing thousands of workers in Kwanar Dawaki Moto Park.

However, the Governor also urged the leadership of RTEAN to continue to enlighten their members about traffic rules and proper maintenance of their vehicles.

An influential member of the Sultanate council, the Magajin Garin Sokoto, Hassan Danbaba, is dead. He was 51 years.

A source confirmed to The Daily Reality that the Magajin Gari died today (Saturday) in Kaduna, ansmd that his remains would be flown to Sokoto for burial.

The late Danbaba was the grandson of late Sir Ahmadu Bello, Premier of Northern Nigeria. Until his demise, Danbaba was Part-Time Chairman of the Governing Board of Sokoto-Rima River Basin Development Authority, Sokoto.

The new Attah of Igala, Mathew Opaluwa Ogwuche Akpa II, will officially receive the Staff of Office in March 2022.

In a statement signed on Friday, February 11, by the Kogi State Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Barr. Salami Momodu Ozigi Deedat, the state government, invites the public to the official installation and presentation of the Staff of Office to the new Attah of Igala, Mathew Opaluwa Ogwuche Akpa II, by the Kogi State Governor, Yahya Adoza Bello.

The statement scheduled the installation as follows: “Date: Friday, 4th March 2022. Venue: Attah Igala Palace. Time: 9 am”.

It is also noted from the statement issued that there will be a presentation of the Staff of Office to other traditional leaders. The statement partly reads:

“Presentation of Staff of Office to other concerned traditional rulers holds the next day (Saturday 5th of March, 2022). Time: 10 am. Venue: Muhammadu Buhari Civil CENTRE, Opposite Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Lokoja”

Potable water scarcity has been one of the major problems facing residents of the Kanuda metropolis for a long time. Stories of potable water scarcity in places like Rigasa, Kawo, Barnawa, Tudun Wada, Kabala West, Unguwar Kanawa, Unguwar Rimi, and others have, in the past years, remained a recurring issue with most of the past administrations failing to arrest the situation till date.

Although the past administrations failed at finding a lasting solution to the water scarcity, nearly all of them committed a large chunk of money to the rehabilitation of water facilities in the state. 

As of now, an investigation by The Daily Reality reveals that water scarcity across the metropolis becomes worst during the dry season when the majority of those that could not afford sachet water, borehole water resolve into patronising a series of questionable water sources available to them. 

It has been discovered that most of the administrations put up measures at making the corporation effective and efficient, the Kaduna State Water Corporation (KSWC). Still, the efforts were not all needed to tackle the chains of problems facing the corporation.

Most of the residents that spoke to The Daily Reality (TDR) in the affected areas expressed displeasure. However, they are pleading with the administration of Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufa’i to pay attention to the issue before the expiration of its term.

The governor of Kano State, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has said that the traditional institutions have a role in tackling the insecurity bedevilling the country over time.

Ganduje said being the traditional institutions as the custodian of history, culture, values, morals and ethics, their role in fighting insecurity is tremendous.

He stated this Thursday at the coronation lecture held at the Kano University of Science and Technology, Wudil, as part of events for the coronation and presentation of Staff of Office to the Emir of Gaya, Alh. Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir.

A statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Hassan Musa Fagge, disclosed this on Monday.

The statement added that Ganduje, who was represented at the occasion by his deputy, Dr Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, the traditional rulers have been managing and leading people in their domain by ensuring peace and stability through conflict resolution, in fact, they are respected for the way they handle issues and resolve them amicably.

“Traditional Institutions are led by people who are knowledgeable and revered by their people.”

“The Traditional Rulers possess qualities such as experience and wisdom and give advice that prevents and solve conflicts,” he said.

However, Ganduje went on to say that knowing the role of the traditional institutions towards national development made his administration create additional emirates. 

He added that the aim is to harness their contributions and potentials with the aim of bringing more development to society.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kano State, has issued a press release applauding the security agencies for the quick and perfect response to the murder of a five-year-old Hanifa by her primary school teacher. In the statement, the opposition party also warned and cautioned the state government over what it alleged as “extorting” the private school owners over the sad incident. According to them, the good ones among the private school owners should not be punished or penalised based on the evil wrongdoings of others.

“The Kano state chaper of Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) has applauded the efforts of security agencies for their swift response in investigating, arresting and arraigning the kidnapper and killer of Kano school girl Hanifa Abubakar.

The party wishes to acknowledge the successful operation that led to the arrest of the suspected culprit Abdulmalik Tanko and his cohorts through strategic intelligence gathering and tactical security operation.

As members of the opposition in Kano, we wish to join other well meaning Nigerians to also commend the prompt prosecution/ arraignment of the suspects before a senior magistrate court in the state to pursue justice on late Halifa without any delay.

On reforming the private education, the PDP therefore advised Kano State government under the leadership of Abdullahi Umar Ganduje to follow the necessary due process in accordance with law establishing Kano state Private School Board which regulates the activities of all non public schools in the state.

“We learnt that Governor Ganduje has withdrawn the operating licence of all private schools in the state, with all sense of humility and patriotism, we will like to caution the state government not to use this opportunity to extort money from the proprietors of private schools in the state”

The party noted that there have been a standard operating procedure provided by the law establishing the private school board developed by the previous administration of Sen. Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso.

Despite the importance of reforming the private education sub-sector which has been long overdue, the Kano state government should not see it as a window of opportunity for extortion of money from the hands of the schools proprietors.

The party is hereby extending its heartfelt condolence to the family of late Hanifa and the good people of Kano on the unfortunate incidence that have put people in deep sorrow and sympathy.

The Kano State Government has revoked the license of all private schools in the state.

Kano state’s Commissioner for Education, Honorable Sanusi Kiru Sa’id, stated this at a press conference held on Monday, January 24, 2022.

This news came up as a follow-up after the brutal murder of a five-year-old school pupil, Hanifa Abubakar, by her teacher and school proprietor, Abdulmalik Tanko.

The state government also announced the arraignment of Mr Tanko before a magistrate court in the state. The accused and two others are remanded in the correctional facility pending the next hearing.

On the suspension of the operational permits for private schools, Hon. Kiru said the government would set up a designated team for guidance on the next line of action.
